Roma are ready to make a big-money move for Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti this summer according to Tutto Merato Web, which could put a spanner in the works of West Ham’s plans.

The Hammers have been detailed as the frontrunners to sign the commanding centre-half this summer but will surely face competition from a host of big European clubs.

The latest report suggests that Roma are preparing to offload Antonio Rudiger this summer for a healthy profit and could spend the windfall to land Umtiti as a replacement.

West Ham may well have attackers as their priority in the transfer market but have also been touted as being interested in a number of defenders this summer too.

Umtiti’s arrival would really bolster Slaven Bilic’s options at the back and allow the side to switch formations if needs be, with the potential to consistently play three centre-halves if desired.
