West Ham United are serious about pursuing Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, according to the London Evening Standard.

The report states the Hammers are ready to test the water on Vardy by tabling a bid of up to £25 million for the England front man.

The striker is currently on £80,000 a week and his wages are set to increase by a further £20,000 following Leicester’s Premier League triumph.

Claudio Ranieri and the Leicester owners have already said that they will not sell their best players. However, with the Hammers moving into a new stadium, they believe they can attract players of Vardy’s calibre to the club this summer.

The 29-year-old has scored 24 league goals this season, just one behind Premier League top scorer Harry Kane. He is set to be a key figure for England in the European Championships and is undoubtedly attracting the interest from a host of clubs across Europe.

Whether Jamie Vardy would leave Champions League football to join West Ham is certainly something that many Hammers fans would question. The striker himself recently stated that he was happy at Leicester, expressing his desire to stay with the Premier League champions:

“There are going to be names thrown into the hat all summer, but with the group of lads that we have got, and obviously winning the league, and with Champions League football next year, you would hope that would keep us all together.”

Despite Vardy’s words, nothing is stopping West Ham from chasing the forward this summer.

Should West Ham remain interested in Jamie Vardy or is it a waste of time?
