Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to be drawn on rumours linking striker Christian Benteke with a summer move to West Ham United.

The giant Belgian striker moved to Anfield in the summer in a big-money move from Aston Villa, but has failed to make a telling impression with the Merseyside club in his first season.

As such, and with Klopp reportedly looking to freshen up his options in the final third ahead of 2016-17, Benteke has been linked with an exit from the Reds.

West Ham are in the market for a new number nine and David Sullivan has admitted this week that a big bid for a Premier League player was on the cards.

With the offer believed to be for Benteke, Klopp has had his say on the rumblings.

The German coach stated that transfer rumours are a part of the modern game and did not hint whether he would be willing to part with the former Villa striker.

“I read transfer rumours in October,” talkSPORT report Klopp as saying.

“We work the whole day and of course we work on the squad for next year.

“Of course we think about transfers, we think about everything, but a lot of rumours are really far away from the actual thing.

“It is really funny when you are involved. Sometimes I’ve never heard of the player who has been linked with Liverpool.”
