West Ham United are seemingly set to take advantage of Manchester United not offering Michael Carrick a new contract, with The Sun claiming that the Hammers want to re-sign their former midfielder this summer.

The veteran deep-lying playmaker is in the last year of his current deal at Old Trafford and will be a free agent in the summer if new terms with the Red Devils are not agreed.

Louis van Gaal’s men are expected to spend big in the transfer market this summer in a bid to get back amongst the silverware contention, with Carrick potentially deemed surplus to requirements as a result.

Carrick is a graduate of the West Ham youth academy and played for the Hammers first team for five years before moving to Tottenham.

Despite being 34, the midfielder still boasts an accomplished range of passing and his experience could well be a valuable resource for the Hammers next season.

The report also claims Arsenal are keeping tabs on the situation.
