Emmanuel Adebayor

West Ham are still being linked with a move for Emmanuel Adebayor as his Tottenham future looks unattainable.

Aston Villa were favourites to sign the striker last week but according to London 24, West Ham are now considered the frontrunners to secure the striker’s signature.

Tottenham are willing to let Adebayor leave despite selling Roberto Soldado to Spanish side Villarreal. It is still unclear whether West Ham can negotiate a deal for Queens Park Rangers front man Charlie Austin and the longer the negotiations continue, the higher the chance of the Hammers moving for the former Manchester City and Arsenal striker.

The Hammers tried to sign Adebayor in January but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy saw West Ham as direct rivals and decided not to sell. If West Ham do try and re-sign the player, Levy will probably be more compensating this time as it looks as if Adebayor has no Tottenham future.

There is a divide amongst West Ham fans when it comes to the potential move for the Togo international. Whilst there is no doubting the striker’s ability, his commitment has been lackadaisical in the past and he does burn a rather large hole in the wage budget despite the fact that he is now 31-years-old.

There do seem to be better options out there and West Ham are obviously trying to identify other potential targets before turning to the Tottenham man.

As well as that, it seems unlikely that the board will want to negotiate with a chairman that has been notoriously difficult in recent seasons and probably not worth the club’s time.

Lol, doubt it. Last year Spurs decided not to deal with us at the last minute making us struggle for a striker. Let him stay on their bench and eat their wage bill until his pockets weigh him and the club down.
