West Ham’s season preview

I’ve just read the biggest load of drivel about West Ham’s hopes and fortunes for the 13/14 season. It was written by a fella by the name of Chris Mendes and it’s on the ITV website. I urge you not to read it as you won’t be getting an honest appraisal of what West Ham are capable of this season; instead you’ll get a deeply bitter man using a season preview to put the boot in on a club he clearly despises. It’s an awful read without any substance and how Chris had the integrity to submit it is beyond me.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

I’m going to attempt to be objective about West Ham’s chances this season (despite having supported the club for over 20 years.) firstly I’d like to focus on recruitment; having brought in Adrian, Stewart Downing, Andy Carroll, Danny Whitehead and Razvan Rat, we’ve strengthened in key areas. Not only have the new signings strengthened the squad but returning players such as Ravel Morrison (who’s form in preseason has been exceptional) and Alou Diarra who is a fantastic option and a much better player than Gary O’ Neil who he’s effectively replaced, have undoubtedly added more quality to the squad.

Last season’s 10th placed finish was based largely on a wonderful home record that saw us only lose 4 at the Boleyn and only fail to score twice; the aim of course is to maintain last season’s brilliant home form and marry it with an improved away one; which was poor last season (we only won 3 away games during the previous campaign) so therein lies the challenge for Sam Allardyce’s Irons, if we can nick a few more away wins and maintain the home form, we’ll be top 10 bound once more.

The main concerns with this coming campaign are the fact that at this moment in time there is a distinct lack of firepower; Andy Carroll will miss the first few games with injury, Modibo Maiga is apparently off soon if you believe transfer tittle tattle and Ricardo Vaz Te has been made available for transfer. The club are struggling to find a striker who will be content to be Carroll’s understudy, but this is exactly what we need, so far there are no takers.

So far this summer none of the family silver has been sold and perhaps more significantly there are no rumours of any key players leaving either, even the tempest that usually surrounds Mohamed Diame’s future seems to have abated…for now at least.

With this current squad West Ham are more than capable of another top 10 finish and have the core of a strong English side, already battle hardened to the riggers of a Premier League season.

The key for West Ham this campaign is improving on last season’s dismal away form; relegation battles won’t be an issue this season; there’s too much quality in the squad for that.

Prediction: 9th

One to watch: Ravel Morrison

I read a season preview of west ham article on itv sport website where the writer finished by tipping us for relegation not sure if same chris mendes article you mentioned but quite clearly the guy is a Brendan Rodgers brain washed and bitter liverpool supporter trying to make themselves feel better about the fact they have been mugged by west ham to the tune of 34 million and can no longer afford to buy players with any kind of price tag

  • Kwame says:

Yup that’s the same preview, shocking wasn’t it? Not professional at all, he just let his bile and hatred towards West Ham spill out, it had no substance and he couldn’t back up any of his claim’s with any clear and concise arguments.

  • Deano says:

Just read it. What a tw*t.
