West Ham fans need to support all Hammers

Stewart DowningStewart Downing’s arrival from Liverpool this week, was followed by many more ‘jokes’ from cliché Twitter pages and the like but look at his statistics as opposed to following the crowd. Jokes get old, especially when the joked about player shows their talent and skill.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

The only worrying thing about the Downing signing is some fans reaction as they seem to find it embarrassing that their work mates will give them stick for the signing. They seem to want to distance themselves from Stewart but will soon be back when he performs well. This includes some outrageous claims e.g. booing, before even giving him a chance. I remember some acting the same about Andy when he arrived as the butt of many jokes…that didn’t last long.

Since the turn of the year Stewart executed 46 key passes which in the entire Premier League was only beaten by David Silva, Juan Mata (both 51) and Leighton Baines (49) in 2013. But of course it goes unnoticed when you’re picked up as the “joke” player. He also managed more assists than any other West Ham player in the Premier League last season (5).

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

It must also be taken into consideration how little Liverpool’s style suited Stewart and is obvious how the big price tag effected him with a lot of expectation that was never going to be filled as he didn’t warrant that amount of money. West Ham’s game suits him perfectly as he is a great crosser of the ball and will strengthen an otherwise weak right side in terms of going up and down the pitch.

We haven’t bought £20million Liverpool Downing we’ve bought £5-6milion West Ham Downing. Even if you thought he was poor at Liverpool you’d surely believe that he has to be given a chance?

Don’t feel pressure from your peers and stand up for Downing at least until he has half the season under his belt. I for one will back Stewart like any of the West Ham players on their debuts.

He hasn’t felt a crowd behind him since his days at Aston Villa and we as fans can help create a new Stewart Downing.

Well said could not agree with you more, the problem is they judge based on he’s career at Liverpool well he’s now a west ham player lets support him and let him prove to us he deserves to wear our colours..

Agree 100%. We need to help him get his confidence back and support him, in return when he feels the support of the crowd he will want to play even better. At Villa he was excellent, and even at Liverpool playing in a style not suited to him his stats are still impressive. Lets get behind him!

In all honesty I’ve not seen this reaction from our fans, all I know think we have an absolute bargain for 5m. Downings problem is his price tag to Liverpool and the amount of England caps he has due to lack of left sided talent in England for the last 20 years! Many fans are too short sighted and can Only judge a player based on their last team. Fact is he is a top player which is why villa paid 12m and the mickeys paid 20m lol! Ifhe regains his villa form (I think Sam will get the best out if him) then he will be back in the England team and will be one of the buys if the season!
Well done to big Sam for getting him, we’re lucky to have the manager!
