West Ham Getting Their Business Done Early

|

Andy CarrollSince the end of the season, West Ham haven’t wasted any time with recruiting new players to strengthen the squad for next season. It’s a rare occasion for West Ham to be getting transfers done early. Normally we waste too much time with the players we want and end up getting left with the scraps at the end. However, I really like the way West Ham have set out so far this summer.

West Ham started off with the signing of left back, Razvan Rat. West Ham were linked with Rat for a number of weeks and eventually signed him on a free transfer. The signing was West Ham’s first of the summer and what everyone hoped was the first of many.

Now recently, West Ham made their second signing of the summer, which was the goalkeeper Adrian from Real Betis. Since his arrival, Adrian has really impressed me with his interviews and he has spoken very highly of West Ham. He is a player I look very forward to watching play.

Now we get to the situation of Andy Carroll. West Ham have agreed a £15million fee with Liverpool for the striker but since then, the deal hasn’t really progressed. This is mainly due to the fact that Carroll is currently on holiday. There have been some rumours that the deal has stalled because of personal terms but this is nonsense and have since then been cleared up. It should just be a matter of time now before the big man signs.

West Ham were also linked with Massimo Ambrosini very early into the transfer window and it was believed that he even held talks with West Ham. However, nothing since then has taken off and it is believed that we will have to wait a fair bit of time before we hear anything regarding Ambrsoini’s future.

To round this off, I would just like to say how pleased I am that West Ham are getting the transfers side of business done nice and early. It will give the players a chance to gel as a team through pre-season which will really get the team prepared for the coming season.

two squad players in thats hardly great early business and carrolls stalling im sure they have phones where hes on holiday if he was gonna sign surely he could open his mouth and tell us 20 to 40 mill spent early is impressive not two freebies anyone can see fat sams style of play needs a target man why has he let cole go?

So if Roland is a squad player who is going to play left back? The guy has won more than our whole squad put together. Adrian had a full season for a top 8 la liga team, is he just a squad player? Carrolls on holiday, why should he have to sort out his future before he flies home? And as for cole lol! And if you think good early business is spending 20 – 40m by the start of June then I think you’re deluded! We’re west ham fans not chelski or citeh

ok rat is a good player didnt see a rush of other clubs trying to sign him
adrien is a good prospect aswell i thought henderson was aswell and what about speigal jussi is still a class act and im sure hel be first choice next season
re carroll theres storys every day will he or wont he ? if the bulk of our money is going on him and hes not stalling for another club to come in why aint he just signed

  • Garry says:

I think these two free be signings could be very good buissness let’s not forget diame was a free signing last year . I spoke to someone that works at upton park yesterday and she said the Carroll deal is done and he will sign after his holiday . I was pleased that we are linked with konea and bony either one will do

  • Ausie John says:

Y not pick up 2 freebies , we want the big fish Carroll , Bony , Douglas , maybe 2or 3 others yes he has a phone with him but carroll also has an agent what ever the outcome l believe we will get most of our targets , so just relax guys week or two our squad will shape up , it’s glory times ahead for our hammers , forever a hammer

  • Dazza p says:

carroll wont sign,to be honest hope he dont now,hes injury prone

  • Arun says:

    razvan rat: really pleased
adrian: happy for some competition for jussi
Carroll: time waster. should just give up on him
bony: I want him at upton park so badly
kone: only if we can’t get bony. too old. max 2 seasons

    Carlton Cole: lol

  • phil says:

your days behind pal so this story is rubbuish. West Ham have turned attentions to wilfried bony who they have already had discussions with and who is a cheaper better option at £12m and £80k a week

    • Jonny ninja says:

Where’s your source? So much rubbish written by the press at this time of year you’d be foolish to believe any if it unless young Sullivan tweets it or its on the website!

  • Brian says:

Check out Rhodes, Hooper too please. We need 3 forwards if the story of Maiga leaving is true. We still need another centre back and central midfielder who can go forward.
If we have the dosh then I would get Rhodes in as soon as possible. Same with Bony. Also someone has to explain to Sam that if we play 1 up front then no-one else will sign!!! Who wants to sit on the bench for the next few years?

  • Ausie John says:

Brian l agree with u, its stupid to buy 2or 3 strikers , especially if we play one up front , maybe bfs has learned from the season nolan highest scorer , maybe he’ll plsy 3 up front , only time will tell guys

  • Ausie John says:

Sorry guys that last paragraph is meant to say 2 strikers up front , only time will tell

  • Jay says:

I agree, it’s nice to be able to get players in early and getting used to the club, I also agree in getting free agents…
Dunno wot world ur in Jim!! Maybe ur a young “fan” and been playing on ur Xbox too much!!! This is not Fifa mate, and if ur an older “fan” then I really am lost for words on those comments!!

    • jim says:

jay ive followed westham since the late 1960s i was brought up with when say john lyall signed a player you would read about it in the press the day after we signed the player i just think the andy carroll signing is getting silly westham are bigger than andy carroll he should be honoured to wear our shirt

  • Al says:

I agree with you Jay? So called fans like Jim need a reality check. We’re still managing huge debts, if you can bring in free signings that can improve the team by just 1% then that’s a good signing., Adrian is potentially our No1 for the next 10yrs, Rat has a great pedigree. You don’t play at the level he has for that long without being a very decent player. 24months ago we were relegated and on the brink of a very dark chapter. The David’s are managing the debt, moving us to the newest stadium in Europe (Which will attract huge backers) Big Sam has taken us out of the Championship at the 1st time of asking and secured us a top half finish in our 1st year back in the top flight. What more do you want? I’ve followed the Hammers for 40yrs, this is the closest we’ve ever been to mixing it with the big boys on a regular basis. We’ve Yo-yo’d between the 2 top leagues and struggled in relegation fights for years now. If you can’t support our great team, keep your negative thoughts to yourself or support another team.

    • jim says:

we dont need backers we just need mega rich owners who can write our debts off with the stroke of a pen it will be great when we move to the o s last season we finished tenth that was great as a westham fan i want us to compete with the top 6 clubs i think we are four or five big signings short of that right now
adriens is potentially our keeper for the ten years i hope your right i remember that being said about mervyn day youve followed westham for forty years you think this is the closest weve been to mixing it with the big boys well the team we had in the early 80s werent a bad side and ofcourse the team in 85 86 season were able to mix with the big boys and maybe the team in the late 90s with ferdinand lampard cole and carrick could give most teams a game

  • Al says:

…..and as for the comment about keeping Carlton Cole??? Jim for someone who’s supposedly supported the Hammers for so long you clearly haven’t seen 80% of CC’s games. Pulling your tripe out for a few games a season is not good enough. He’s had long enough to prove himself. Thanks Carlton…. but you’re not good enough to take our club forward.

    • jim says:

how come cole played when carroll was injured last season and was on the bench for the rest of the time i agree about we cant move forward with cole as first choice and carroll would be a good replacement if he signs

  • Al says:

The team of the early 80’s were in the old division 2 (when we won the FA Cup), as for the 85-86 season, just take a look at where we finished the following season. The team with the likes of Cole/Ferdinand/Lampard won the Inter Toto cup! Hardly something they’ll put on their CV’s. When I said mixing it with the big boys I did say on a regular basis, meaning season in season out, not just one season in 40. So what is the difference between mega rich owners and backers? Whatever it is we won’t attract either lingering at the bottom of the premiership and in the championship. Within 24 months of Big Sam taking over we are attracting International players, which is something we haven’t done for many years (Apart from the flawed and illegal purchasing of Tevez and Mascharano) West Ham really was very seriously ill club 2 years ago, and to find ourselves where we are now is beyond anyone’s expectations. We might not always play the most attractive football at times under Sam, but its effective and it makes us hard to beat. Whether Carroll signs or not is not down to myself or any other fan, but the fact we are even competing for his signature is fantastic. Sam and the owners will decide who we sign and hopefully they’ll keep taking us forward and true fans will have faith in their decisions and support them. Other so called fans will just continue to throw their negative views around.

    • jim says:

its great to hear such optimism as yours and though i dont think we play good football we are hard to beat and in two years we have greatly improved but what is the next level 9th place ? a run in the cups ? im not being negative i want to see westham win and play good football wich we aint i do realise we cant afford to get relegated because of finances and though we dont look great under allardyce we dont look like wel get relegated wich im thankful for it would be nice to go to places like arsenal and chelsea etc and see us give them a proper game and is in the case of them two teams not get badly outclassed or out played there

      • Jonny ninja says:

I think we need to walk before we run jim! Getting top six will take tens of millions at least. The top 6 or 7 are locked then there’s the rest of us. You’re talking about ousting spurs or Liverpool that is not going to happen in one season. If we finish tenth next season, IMO that is success. If we lost on the last day of the season we would have finished 13th so it’s all fine margins. Our aim had got to be stability until the OS. We will then have a higher turnover and probable investment. We also need to take in to consideration ffp? We can start looking to Europe then but we need to be an established premier league team. As for sams football I still find it hard to believe fans complain. Without him and the David’s backing I guarantee will would be mid table in the championship at best, looking at which Swindon and wolves players we can sign instead of england internationals? I know what I prefer

  • Al says:

Yes 9th place would be the next Level. Thanks for the debate Jim, good to see your passion. Johnny Ninja, great name and great post. We’re competing with some big clubs with more spending power than ourselves and players with much more top flight experience than our players. One step at a time and let’s hope we can establish ourselves as a Top half team like, Everton or the Spuds.

  • Garry says:

Time will tell but I would love us to get bony and Carroll .id like a punt on scot Sinclair to play on the right and a swap deal for sane . Kone would be good buissness if the 6.5 mill is enough we don’t want to many players .i think if the right people wanted to buy the David would want to do what’s right they have been good chairman

  • bubbles says:

Hammers must take this opportunity to join the big boys . Will the porn brothers have the desire or funds … I think not …We need to be looking for owners with real money . Cole ..rubbish … Carrol does not want to play for us so move on to Bony or Rhodes . Must get a centre half …. Tomkins will never be good enough and the loyal Noble has gone as far as his very limited ability will take him .

  • Morrow says:

I think we did well last season despite our obvious limitations. We now need to begin consolidating; galvanising the squad for the long season ahead.

There are too many rumours involving us. I’d like us to operate below the radar and on solid players that will add to team performance. Watching potential signings ply their trade on You Tube doesn’t quite fill me with confidence but just gets me antagonised when they declare Champions League aspirations.

If Andy Carroll signs, great but this will be known this week. If not, then we need a Plan B and that’s an inspirational figure not a journeyman. This is best achieved quietly so the other vultures don’t get wind of it.

Do we run the router over Ravel and our outstanding academy boys? Sad not to have seen Wellington appear but that’s You Tube for you.

I say get Shelvey, look closely at Scott and Malouda. I have no real view on the strikers yet except to say a non African Nations player would be preferable. And keep an eye on Jose’s cull for cut price specials!
