West Ham Target Liverpool Midfielder

Jonjo ShelveyMidfielder Jonjo Shelvey is the latest Liverpool player to be linked with a move from Merseyside to London.

A childhood West Ham fan Shelvey is widely expected to be interested in a move to Upton Park, is it a move that would suit both the Hammers and the man that the West Ham faithful chanted “Harry Potter, he’s coming for you” at?

The former Charlton man, who was tipped to be England’s future before his money spinning move to Liverpool could be set to join the Irons for 7 million pound – a sum that seems a bit too much for him, to me.

There is no doubting his talents, and he is still young but for me he is too lightweight and there must be a reason why he has struggled to settle in at Liverpool. Of course competition is high for the central midfield slot at Anfield and the immoveable object that is Steven Gerrard probably doesn’t help his cause.

I think Jonjo could find chances limited at West Ham too, with our very own immoveable object Kevin Nolan. Jonjo, who I think is better in behind the striker in the ‘Nolan role’, would find opportunities very limited as although Nolan is getting older, he was our top goal scorer last season and is our captain, so moving him could be as hard as moving Gerrard out of Liverpool’s side.

Then there is Mark Noble, “Mr West Ham”, Jonjo would struggle to move him out the side, he takes the set pieces, he flies into tackles and gets the faithful of their seats. One appealing thought though, is the fact that with Noble, Joey Cole and Jonjo Shelvey the Hammers could have a midfield packed with Cockney talent.

That’s the one saving grace for Jonjo, but the positives are massively outweighed by the negatives, seven million quid takes a large dent out of our clubs budget with already 15 million pound potentially out of it with the club still waiting on Andy Carroll, is it a risk we can really afford to take. He would have to be a starter for that money and I just can’t fit him in our side. I just can’t drop Noble, Nolan or Diame. Would he improve us? Probably but for the touted money we can’t risk it.

For Jonjo, a move to the east end could rejuvenate his career, back ‘home’ he might settle down and crack on with his undoubted talent, if he could force his way in the side and start to show his early form he could break into the national side on a regular basis.

So sorry Mr Shelvey, your dream move wouldn’t come true if I was in charge, but with Big Sam in charge you might be in luck, though I suspect this story won’t have legs with the money being touted.

Come on you Irons!

I’ve seen the rumours too, but I didn’t bat an eye lid as it’s the sort of speculation that a child could have written.
Jonjo surplus to requirements at pool, ex hammers youth product, hammers fan, we are currently trying to tie up a deal for another pool player, Liverpool need to raise funds….etc etc
I’m pretty sure he is NOT the type of player we need right now, as we have better players in his position and we’re looking to improve the team for next season.
The meaningful speculation will probably start towards the middle to end of June.

Have to agree with the comments. What a load of rubbish. We are after Benat and Sinclair not Shelvey

I think he would be good signing, already very talented and only 20 so will improve. Is pretty versatile and I think he would fit in to our team.
However, he doesn’t currently improve our 1st 11 (though I feel he will in a couple of years) and he is not worth 7million. I’d happily sign him for no more than 3.5 m max.
As stated this is very likely to be bs transfer talk from the papers just like 99% of what is currently written at this present time (for example Carroll wants to go back to Liverpool; you’d be a fool to believe that rubbish). So many links to this club that it is easy for the papers to add 2+2 and come up with 5! Was there a reason that he left our youth setup to go charlton if he loves this club so much? If he is such a big fan why did he celebrate like he won the euro millions when he scored against us in the league. For the right price he would be a good signing, but not for a second do I think he will be wearing the claret and blue in the near future.

He left us cos his brother got released and his old man said our coaching was shite end of !!! I know his old man and don’t think he would want him to come back and think he will have a big say in it ! He’s a good player but prob dosent get on with Rogers but personally can’t see this happening and who would he replace ? Is Diame going ???
