Massimo AmbrosiniWest Ham United has been linked with AC Milan’s, 35 year old Italian midfielder, Massimo Ambrosini amidst much speculation as the transfer window nears.

The AC Milan maestro is known for his tackling, aerial ability and unbelievable leadership skills of which have most likely drawn manager Sam Allardyce’s attention. The four-time Serie A title holder is available on a free transfer and is expected to be announced later this week.

Personally, I would rather see young talent such as Lleget and Moncur be given chances in the centre of midfield than old players, that may not be up to the pace anymore. However, I said the same thing about Jussi Jaaskelainen at the beginning of the season, and he proved me wrong, along with many other Hammers fans.

Ambrosini would be a decent addition to the squad in terms of depth; however I don’t feel he will benefit the team too much, whereas as giving youngsters run outs potentially may.

For me, we need to be focusing our attention, young, pacey players that can add a bit of spark and creativity in the midfield and rip off the branding ‘hoof ball’ label from our club. We could appoint such position to Ravel Morrison, a bright prospect for the future, however the young bad-boy was sold by Manchester United for a reason despite his potential. Despite this nasty streak Morrison may hold within him, he has impressed on loan at Birmingham this season picking up many a man of the match award. Alike past players such as Julian Dicks and Paolo Di Canio, maybe a flamboyant/hard-hitting personality may benefit the team?

Do you feel Ambrosini is the way forward or do you think Allardyce should open up more opportunities to our young prodigies?

The youngsters will get a chance when they have proved to the management that they have the potential to be good enough. If there was a youngster who is better than a first team player in the same position then im sure Sam would already have him in the team. Don’t forget it was Big Sam who handed Phil Jones his first league start for Blackburn against Chelsea and Didier Drogba. As for Ambrossini i would be delighted if we signed a player of this class and stature as i believe he would have a major impact on the dressing room and make the other players up their game having a Serie A and Champions League winner around even if he didn’t feature from the start week in week out.

Well said James, I didn’t see your comment before posting but you hit the nail on the head!

I have a feeling Big Sam has more knowledge about the players, their abilities and readiness to play in one of the toughest leagues in the world than your personal opinion of the players you speak so highly of & I trust Big Sam to do what he is being paid to do and to do that job well.
IF Massimo Ambrosini can bring his UNDOUBTED AC Milan experience, guile and invention, even as an option off of the bench over a season plus…..I’d welcome it!

Keep up the good work Big Sam.

I agree with James to a point, I think in the case of Morrison, he’s ready to go, he’s done a bang up job with starts for 3/4 of the season at Brum and has the creativity we need in the center of the park. Just watch some highlights from the MUFC v Liv FA Youth Cup a few years ago, brilliant as spreading the play in difficult situations.

I would like Ravel to do well. But could we clear one thing up . This article says he has picked up many a man of the match award at Brum. I have seen posts from Birmingham fans on West Ham websites denying that he has been scooping up these awards. Ben – in doing your research for this article did you get to the bottom of how many he had won and which matches ?

Both of the signing we are about to make have champions league expericiance and are both free . It looks like figaroa could be on his way this makes the depth of our squad a lot better . I hope Sam does what every supporter wants and pays what ever it takes to get carrol and scott Sinclair would be a very classy winger .

A blend of old & young players has worked at many clubs,a Fergie speciality.I don’t see the point in signing Rat & Figeroa,Bony looks a good player if we don’t agree a deal for AC,but this may be hard because of new finance rules,in that case Bony looks a good BFS type of player.Interesting summer ahead COYI

How about Yakubu signing for the Hammer’s ? Every transfer window i can remember he’s been about to sign, may be he’s not mature enough? Lets hope we get the quality players we need, to come in this window.
