West Ham playersWhoScored.com is a football statistic website, which tracks all the big European leagues. They rate each player and record all stats for each individual and as a team collective. It uses stats from Opta and presents them in different graphical ways. Below are the top 10 performers for West Ham going by their stats and ratings:

10. In number ten spot is Kevin Nolan. Despite being the top goal scorer this season his average performance rating is 6.75. His top stats are 10 goals, 2 assists and 1 Man of the Match award.

9.  Ricardo Vaz Te fills the number 9 spot. Often moaned about but when he plays West Ham seem to do significantly better for it to be a coincidence. RVT has scored 3 goals and has 4 assists to his name, along with 1 Man of the Match award. His average performance rating is 6.81.

8. The first academy product in the top 10 is James Tomkins who takes number 8. He hasn’t been very impressive to the eye this season with limited chances to break in the squad but with 7 clearances on average per game and contributing towards 2 goals (1 g 1 a), he is the 8th best performer. James’ average performance rating is 6.82.

7. Joey O’Brien takes 7th place with an impressive 4 assists from defence. He has also netted 2 goals. Joey has been somewhat a surprise package this season and has impressed many. His average performance rating is 6.83.

6. The ever present Jussi Jääskeläinen takes 6th place with an average performance of 6.91. Jussi has won 5 Man of the Match awards (the most in the squad). He is also the third highest rated goal keeper in the Premier League behind Simon Mignolet and Petr Cech.

5. In 5th is the Ginger Pele, James Collins. He almost reached the 7 in his performance rating with a score of 6.96. He has won 84 of 130 aerial duels and has made 10.9 clearances per game. He also blocked 1.4 shots per game with a total of 40 blocked shots.

4. The Hammer of the Year takes 4th place and is the first player to break the 7 barrier by scoring exactly 7.0. He has been Man of the Match 3 times and has a slightly less aerial duel percentage won than his centre half counterpart Collins (86/139). He made an average of 2 interceptions per game with a total of 73.

3. Mohamed Diame takes the bronze medal place. He has an average rating of 7.02. He has 3 great goals to his name in the Premier League this year. He has also made 642 accurate passes out of 763 attempted (84.1%); however, he made no assists.

2. Taking the silver place is true hammer, Mark Noble. He hasn’t played as much as some but has contributed with 4 goals and 3 assists. He has also been Man of the Match 3 times. He has also made an impressive 1195 (82.6%) accurate passes this season despite playing less than Momo Diame. His average performance rating was 7.05.

1. The goal medal goes to the on-loan Andy Carroll, not only is he our best performer by WhoScored’s stats, he is the sixth highest average in the entire Premier League (beaten by Bale, Suarez, Cazorla, RVP and Vertonghen). He bagged 7 goals and assisted 4 goals. He won 9.3 aerials per game which is easily above everyone in the Premier League. His average performance rating was 7.57.

Proof that many players have been unfairly criticised this season. Where is Jarvis? You can say all you want about Vaz Te but he has scored 3 and assisted 4, whereas Jarvis has 2 accidental goals and no assists.

Our season was always going to be built from the back. Reid, Collins and Jaaskelainen were the real story of our season along with a reality of what a fit and confident Andy Carroll is capable of. His second against WBA was as good as anything this season.
