Would West Ham Fans Welcome Back Rob Green?

|

Robert Green 2We’ve all got back together with an ex, right? Working out whether second (or third, fourth…) time’s the charm or not is a risky business though. It’s worked for West Ham recently with Joe Cole being welcomed back after a lengthy spell away from the club.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

But would it work with Rob Green? I don’t think it would be as successful as Cole from a fan’s perspective. Joe Cole has been welcomed back because he didn’t want to leave. With Greeno, it’s a whole different story.

Rob Green never spoke out about the reasons why he actually wanted to leave West Ham. It seemed a bit of an odd decision, especially as the Hammers had just got themselves back into the Premier League. And also when you consider how relentless our support had been of him, especially after that mistake for England. And he had a fair few rushes of blood to the head for us as well!

It would appear that Green either left West Ham for QPR for a new project or – we’re all thinking it – money.

But would we take him back? Even though it was a bit of a shock when he left, I think I would. I’m getting fed up of Jussi Jääskeläinen now. I was at Aston Villa away, and even though I was there in person I still have no idea what that save attempt for the free kick was!

And at 37, Jääskeläinen probably doesn’t have that much left in him! QPR should be willing to let Green go now that they’ve got Cesar between the sticks, so I think we should try and grab a bargain and bring him back. However, if they go down I’m not sure that Julio Cesar will be sticking around!

I think if the deal’s right then why not bring him back to Upton Park? Would you have him back, or is there someone else you’d prefer as our shot-stopper? Let me know by leaving me a comment or tweeting me at @alwaysintune

No he makes some ok save but is just as dodgy as jussi lets get somone not known for there calamitys

  • Rob says:

Let’s try and get Julio Cesar first.
Having said that, I’d welcome Rob back.
Jussi is looking long in the tooth after starting so strong for us, and realistically how long does Jääskeläinen have left in the Premier League?

  • Martyn says:

Definitely have him back. JJ is well past his best and reactions not good enough for Prem. agree though would prefer Cesar

  • Rob says:

Green left because he was one of the lower earners at the club when he was one of the most consistent players. He wanted a new contract before his contract expires to be on par with the senior players. This is why he left on principle.

  • Rob says:

Joe Cole left and claimed he was a Chelsea fan. Funny what fans choose to remember. He said he would have left even if we didn’t get relegated. So the article isn’t factual correct.

  • Rob says:

Remember the Arsenal game and others. On his day Rob Green is as good as any. Much better than Jussi

  • max says:

Yes yes yes. I would have him back.
    1) He is better than Jaaskelainen
    2) He didnt force a move. His contract was up and he chose to sign for another team.
    3) Surely the circumstances in which he left, whilst puzzling, were surely better than a player jumping ship after a relegation. At least he left on a highnote, after promotion

A big NO from me we always looked fragile at the back with Rob between the sticks. In my opinion Jussi is a better keeper, but is certainly to old for the premiership. BUTLAND would have been a good buy, but pipped to the deal again.

Rob Green saved West Ham on numerous occasions which is more than can be said of Jussi. Would I welcome him back? I really dont’ know because of the manner in which he left us.

  • Kyle Scott says:

Personally, I would never take Robert Green back. He was excellent for us over a number of years and will be remembered fondly at the Boleyn, but it is a time where the club is looking to push forward instead of looking back. New stadiums, exciting new prospects, and attempting to consolidate back into the Premier League. Jussi is not good enough, correct. But I fail to see why we cannot sign an experienced but somewhat more agile goalkeeper.

I’d take Greeny back without a moment
    s hesitation

  • Stan says:

He saved us more points than he ever cost us. He’s better than our current custodian. He moved for a big signing on fee and improved salary (none of us would ever do such a thing). Of course I’d welcome him back…..But would he come?

  • Dave says:

Short memory, Joe Cole wanted to leave West Ham he had already refused to sign a contract and said he was leaving, he could have taken a cut or whatever, he was out the door.
Green made hiss decision, it was about money so he can keep his money and play reserve football.
Stoke have a few good keepers, I reckon we should go after a good young keeper, Green had the same clangers in him as Jussi, only difference is green could kick the ball over the half way line.

Noooo !NOT in a thousand years !The man is DISASTEROUS as a goalkeeper .At one time he was virtually throwing the ball in his own net.So poor was he ,that i was convinced he was part of a middle east betting scam.I used to brick myself everytime the opposition crossed the half way line ,with Bobo the clown in goal !In the season we went down and the one before,Green cost West Ham at LEAST thirty points. He didn’t fare any better at QPR with both Redknapp and Hughes quickly realising how poor Green was.Anything could happen with Green in goal.Often the opposition would have ONE attempt at goal and score.Miraculous ,how West Ham instantly stopped conceeding goals .In the last five minutes when Almunia replaced Green in goal, when Bobo was injured. He was AWFUL at crosses ,in the end he didn’t even come for them anymore.Staying rooted to his goal line, offering the opposition a free header.Sometimes he would be like a startled rabbit, and punch the ball straight onto the opposition strikers head. There were other Green classics.Being beaten from thirty metres by a ball rolling on the ground. While HOLDING the ball ,let it slip behind him into his net !Miskicking a ball rolling to him, letting it squirm under his feet into the net.Poor at place kicking, oftem kicking the ball STRAIGHT to a surprised opposition striker.Numerous times being beaten by a low shot at his near post. With the ball finding the back of the net between Green and the near post. His distribution being AWFUL,would take him five minutes to decide what to do with the ball when he had it in his hand.A match against Hull City sums up Green. He faced two shots the whole game..yet Hull won 3-2.Green welcome back at The Boleyn ?The man should be charged with crimes against West Ham United !

Take Rob Green back in a heart beat, he was always a class act and made our defence better.

  • legends11 says:

i see west ham fans showing much more loyalty to green that he showed west ham. he should take his money and shove it. … not a great keeper. poor kicker. miserable attitude. poor on crosses. fantastic shot stopper at times, but doesnt raise his game to the occassion, instead gets nervy. we need a complete keeper who loves wearing the shirt.

  • carl says:

I would’nt mind him coming back but only if its on a free transfer. Why pay for someone who walked out for free

  • bubbles says:

No way . He is rubbish and on top of that GREEDY.

  • Allardyce says:

    Kasper Schmeicel anyone?
