Where Would Maynor, Figueroa For West Ham?

|

Maynor FigueroaThis week West Ham United have been linked with Maynor Figueroa of Wigan Athletic who is out of contract at the end of the season, there is no reason why the Hammers can’t prise him away, as they did with Mohamed Diame, but would Figueroa be a good signing for us?

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Figueroa can play at either left back or centre back and has played in both positions for Wigan this season and from what I have seen has played very well. Wigan play with three centre backs and two wing backs, which is a much different shape to what West Ham play, in their formation he would have a lot more freedom to go forward as there are more defenders around him to cover him, however I think that the change in formation would be fairly easy for him to adapt to, and he would still have a fair bit of freedom due to the fact that we play with two holding midfielders.

He is a player who has quite a bit of pace, a great cross, strength and who has scored a few great goals down the years, and these are all attributes that would greatly help West Ham, as these would help him to create a good partnership with whoever plays on the left side of the midfield, and with him and Guy Demel in the team I think that we would have two full backs who are also attacking threats for the first time in a while; which could perhaps help with creativity in the side without Allardyce having to abandon his beloved 4-2-3-1 formation.

The only thing that would worry me, is that he seems to give away quite a few free kicks and penalties, but I’m sure that with Winston Reid playing alongside him he could calm down in terms of committing fouls.

Overall I would say that Maynor Figueroa would be a great signing for us; we would get him on a free transfer, his wages wouldn’t be too high and he could help with the pace and creativity in the team. If he does choose to do what Diame did, and make the move from the DW Stadium to the Boleyn Ground, I feel that it could once again benefit West Ham greatly.

If Fig does leave us it will be a good signing on a free for you guys no doubt but I would expect him to revert back to a LB for you as this is his natural position.

He can do a job with 2 other CB’s around him (most of our CB’s been injured for large parts of the season) as he has good movement on the ball but I cant stress enough how much he is not a CB.

Been a good player for us over the years and would leave with best wishes.

Left back has been a problem area for west ham ever since the days of dicks and winterburn. Must say figuroa looks the perfect sort of player for us.
