Time For West Ham Fans To Give It Some ‘Welly’

|

Wellington PaulistaWest Ham signed Wellington Paulista on an initial six month loan deal with a view to sign permanently on a three year deal from Cruzerio. Having had a good goal ratio for his Brazilian club where he scored 75 goals in 160 games all be it against inferior opposition. David Sullivan described his arrival at West Ham as a “wildcard” similar to the signings of Demba Ba and Ilan who both made significant contributions to West Ham during their time at the club.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

Having heard mixed reviews regarding Wellington Paulista’s footballing abilities I thought I would have a look myself so I took to YouTube. What I found was a vast range of clips with Wellington scoring goals and not much more so I can’t really comment on what his overall ability is like. However the clips I have seen and from speaking to Cruzerio fans I feel he is suited to the Premier League, he looks big and strong and scores a lot of headed goals and is a player to put his head and feet in where some other strikers would shy away from doing.

The Cruzerio fans I have spoken to have been very complementary of Wellington and they were sad to see him leave, most came back with the same comments about him, stating he is in no means a world beater but would be a good signing for West Ham and would no doubt get a handful of goals for us.

With Wellington yet to make a first team appearance or even make the bench I am starting to get the feeling that we West Ham fans are going to miss out on seeing Wellington play in the Premier League. I hope I’m wrong. With Sam Allardyce saying that Wellington faces a struggle to get into the first team, also stating that we are “over-balanced” with up front strikers having Carlton Cole, Andy Carroll, Marouane Chamakh, Modibo Maiga and also Ricardo Vaz Te who can also play up front. So I wonder to myself what the thinking was behind Sam Allardyce bringing Wellington to West Ham if this was the case. It’s a strange one for me to try and understand, if Wellington was never really going to be in Sam Allardyce’s plans I personally feel it’s unfair of him to bring him to the club knowing that he was never really going to be given a fair chance. The lad at least deserves the chance to show us what he is all about good or bad.

Wellington has at least been able to pull on the West Ham shirt all be it for the Development squad, playing three games and in return scoring three goals one in each of the games he has played, showing that Wellington does have the ability to find the net. With West Ham lacking goals I cannot see what the harm is by giving Wellington a chance or even giving him a place on the bench. There is nothing to lose really as goals for West Ham by strikers are like gold dust at the moment. Maybe even tweaking the system we play so we can have two strikers on the pitch.

I think I speak for most West Ham fans when I say I would love to see Wellington out there for the first team. He clearly has the ability to score goals evident from his goal ratio in Brazil and topping that with three goals for the development squad. I feel that he might just add the spark that our other strikers have been lacking this season.

So I say let Welly have his chance and let him show us what he is all about!

Sam seems to bring players in (especially strikers) and never gives them a fair crack, eg Baldock/Maynard/Maiga. I fear the same will happen with “Welly”. He has persisted with Carlton Cole, and we all know CC is never going to score enough goals. With CC’s contract up in the summer, let him go and offer Welly a contract now. Its got to be worth a gamble. C’mon Sam “GIVE IT SOME WELLY” 🙂

vaz te carlton cole and maiga are simply not up to prem standard so we have to give the guy a chance play him with carrole in a 442 give him a run of games then judge him if not we may as well send him back now sam was moaning the other week about missed chances so what have we got to lose

Vaz Te hasn’t been given a chance up front, Maiga has never been a lone striker so judging him on his few chances as a lone striker is unfair, in the cup he played fantastic and scored twice in 2 starts. Cole if played up front with a partner can produce goals so I disagree with you about all those guys. In the PL Vaz Te is played in midfield, he isn’t a midfielder so I don’t know why people expect him to be amazing there. Neither him nor Maiga have been given a chance playing up top with a partner. Wellington Paulista has scored 3 for the development squad, why should he go in the side ahead of Vaz, Maiga, Cole or Chamakh? I think he deserves a chance but maybe off the bench, he doesn’t deserve a chance up top with a partner ahead of the other guys.
