RUMOUR MILL: Moroccan on Hammers door?

|

It is reported that Arsene Wenger is ready to offload misfiring striker Marouane Chamakh on a loan deal in the fast approaching January transfer window. Chamakh has seriously underachieved and unimpressed the Arsenal fans since his arrival from Bordeaux on a free transfer in 2010. Since then the Moroccan forward has only 14 goals in 65 appearances for London rivals “The Gooners”.

In a season of many talking points for the West Ham faithful the lack of firepower among the forwards has been a big one. Unproven Modibo Maiga is the clubs highest scoring striker for this season but has very much been somewhat inconsistent. England international Andy Carroll who joined the Hammers on a season long loan from Liverpool this term has only scored 1 goal, and Carlton Cole, although playing very well as of late, isn’t exactly a proven goal scorer. Many fans have been crying out for Gold and Sullivan to hand Big Sam some cash to spend on a forward in January but I don’t think Arsenal’s number 29 was high on many lists.

After all, the name Chamakh doesn’t exactly spring to mind in a conversation about strikers with the ability to hit the net on a regular basis. Described as a target man by most, I feel he isn’t what we need right now. We have 2 effective target men in Cole and Carroll regardless of what Cole’s many critics say. I can’t imagine Chamakh adding any more goals to the side, although that said, Big Sam’s style could suit him more than Wenger’s.

It is being reported that the deal is already in a late stage as Allardyce has met with the strikers agent and when January comes it looks as if this deal may well happen. SO it looks as if all we can do is cross our fingers and hope he can fire some goals for the Irons.

Chamakh was linked with us(and turned is nose up at the prospect of joining us) under Zola. He held out and eventually joined Arsenal…
We had a lucky escape! Arsenal who are able to create goal scoring opportunities (despite their recent poor form) which a striker of average ability would be able to put a fair few away. But Chamakh has proved to be a dud! Similar to the rumors linking Bendtner with us, I can’t believe why you would want to bring a striker who can’t score OR create opportunities for others to West Ham.
    I’m NOT worried….. Because he ISN’T coming!!!

I usually go shopping on Thursday nights but this week I went to the cinema to see The Hobbit. I was thoroughly impressed with the film and I would recommend it to anyone from 8 to 80! I would see it again this weekend by I’ve got a sailing lesson as you know.

Hope this finds you in good health and you enjoy the tango classes. I can’t believe Gill has got you to go!

    Much love as always,

    Tony

Geoffrey sends his regards and thanks you for the kind gift. He has said that he will use it whenever it’s cold on the Moors or when it’s too humid at home in Pitsea!

Morris and Julia have now moved in and have experienced some issues with the electrics but are not blaming you! Although they said you didn’t replace the circuit board as instructed. Anyway there was only fire damage to the porch and front bay window so no real harm done.

Hope all is well and you recover in time for next year’s bowls season. We’re missing you down the green especially Ethel!

Have a happy birthday and a merry christmas.

    Tony.

If Sam is determined to want a big forward who wins more than his fair share of headers,I think he should look at Matt Smith the Oldham striker,I have only seen him in their recent cup matches but I was very impressed he is 6foot 6inches tall and is very dominant in the air.He didn’t come on until late against Everton but held his own against Fellainy and co and scored the equaliser in stoppage time.
