Christmas themed Hamemrs

|

I was given the task of putting together a collection of West Ham players that could also represent Christmas. Now, admittedly, in a smug manner, I believed I could easily put together a starting XI. I now realise, three days past the deadline, this was not only difficult, but also somewhat tenuous. PLEASE if you can add to it, do so!

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Allen Mc(Silent)Knight starts my list. Though not our best ever keeper, he gets in the list as the only other ‘keeper, despite having the same nationality, shares his surname with another player listed. Thus Mc(Silent)Knight makes it.

The first Noel Cantwell. A cultured defender from back in the day who made his name in claret and blue before leaving for Manchester United.

Nigel (In The Bleak Mid)Winterburn. Won so many trophies at Arsenal, deserved more recognition at international level. Steady, strong, rarely put a foot wrong, tenuous Chrimbo link. But not as bad as…..

Tommy McQueen’s Speech. Signed from Aberdeen in the late 80s Tommy gets in despite doing anything of any note in his scoreline kit.

Alan Dickens’ Christmas Carol. Though I admit it’s getting silly now, as an aside I remember Alan Dickens scoring the only goal on the first occasion I saw West Ham live.

Mark Snowball. East end boy. Current legend. Passionate, West Ham heartbeat and gets in for a rhyming surname.

Andy Carroll. With the possibilty of becoming our most expensive ever signing, Carroll gets in. Had he have not picked up an injury the festive period, we may have witnessed a wonderful Christmas Carroll.

Carlton Cold. It’s cold at Christmas. Apologies, that’s far too tenuous.

And I’m done. If any of you can think of someone with a more tenuous link, please comment. Or better still, we start a twitter footballer/chrimbo game.
