RUMOUR MILL: hell Bent on finding goals

|

So West Ham’s start to the season has been very impressive but one thing I have felt that is lacking is a striker that can guarantee us at least 15 goals a season.

Lets be honest with this, Andy Carroll isn’t a striker that is going to get you a hat full of goals, Carroll is there to rough defenders up and make them worry about him which would leave a space for someone playing off him that has pace and goals in his locker.

Is this person Aston Villa’s, Darren Bent?

Surprisingly Bent hasn’t been a regular first team player at Villa but I think he is a player West Ham should consider making a move for in January. If you take his premier league career record of 280 games and 122 goals so that’s almost 1 in every 2 games.

Bent has been round the block a bit now having played for 5 clubs and at the age of 28 maybe its time for him to find a club where he can settle down and become a firm fan favourite and that is up for grabs at West Ham. Yes he rejected us in 2007 in favour of Spurs but I would seriously look at this as a potential signing. I feel he would link well with Carroll and even if we fail to sign Carroll on a permanent deal Bent would easy fill that gap as our leading striker.

Many fans may feel that Modibo Maiga could fill that role once given a chance and I agree with them, I do feel Maiga needs a long run in the team to show us what he can do and I hope he gets that chance but Bent is a fully proven striker in the premier league and is always there amongst the top scorers.

We will have to wait until January to find out what happens, but I feel yes this is a signing that would be excellent for West Ham as a team and as a club.
