Wigan away is vital

|

Fourteen points from eight games is a fantastic start to the season for West Ham, exceeding even the most optimistic predictions. I am beginning to believe in this team with their collective will to win and team spirit.

Ever dreamt about getting paid for reading about West Ham? Well now you can make dreams a reality http://bit.ly/ffc-foreverwestham-lp

The positivity around the club and the fans is catching, but we must be cautious of not getting too carried away. Yes, we have done very well, but a quick glance at the next batch of fixtures is sobering.

After I had posted my match report, still basking in the glory of the second half performance, I was asked the question from “mystic meg” who wanted to know how many points I thought West Ham would get from the next eleven games.

As my eyes scrolled down the list, one game after the other, I soon realised that this batch of games could very well define our season. So I wrote them down, removed my claret and blue tinted glasses, and tried to be as objective as possible, and this is what I came up with:

Wigan W, M City, D, Newcastle L, Stoke W, Spurs D, M Utd L, Chelsea L, Liverpool W, WBA D, Arsenal L, Reading W.

It is extremely hard for me to predict a West Ham defeat, but as I’ve said, I have tried to be as objective as possible. “Mystic meg” replied saying that he/she thought it would be closer to eight points as opposed to my prediction of fifteen.

Whichever way you look at it, they are certainly all tough games. Even Reading away (the easiest on paper) is going to be a massive battle. So who is right? My optimistic prediction of a well-fed 15 points, or is “mystic meg” more in tune with the future with an under-fed 8 point return?

Of course it could be worse than eight, maybe better than 15 (which would be incredible), or somewhere in the middle. Who knows? But one thing is for sure, it is certainly going to be a fascinating roller coaster of a ride over the coming weeks.

This is why it is so important to get the win at Wigan Athletic. With seventeen points in the proverbial bag, we can approach these games with much less fear and trepidation, taking these teams on, rather than worrying about grasping around for points.

I love ur optimism!! And certainly hope we dont lose to Man City as its my birthday!!! COYI

  • Big Tone says:

I’m with you most of the way, but I think liverpool will be a draw-so 13 points is my prdiction.

  • Michael says:

Remember we won’t have Carroll for the L’pool match, which will hurt our attacking abilities. L’pool know how to deal with Carlton C.

    • Gary Troia says:

I forgot that, Michael, good point!

    • Christoph says:

Maiga is an unknown quanity atm so lets hope he can have some impact when we are missing AC

      • Gary Troia says:

Hello Christoph! He’s scored three goals so far, and I think he should start the games now. The goal he scored against the Saints was top class. Welcome to the online family, by the way.

Another 11 pts on top of our existing 14 pts is my prediction for Dec 31

  • AmlwchHammers says:

Hopefully Liverpool won’t have to deal with (Useless)Cole. Maiga took his goal brilliantly on Saturday, and is now ahead of Cole on the team sheet. He’ll be a real handful for the scousers. WHTID!

Even 8 points won’t be so bad. After that we can start accumulating till we surpass the magical 42 points by February and then it is plain sailing for a go at a European place. Now that can’t be bad for us hammers.

    • Gary Troia says:

Safehammer, you’re even more optimistic than me.

      • Gary Troia says:

Just to let everyone know, as this is an interactive site, when I write an article, I’ll stand by to reply if anyone wants to debate.

  • Mystic meg says:

Safhammer is spot on 8 points won’t be to bad , we have had a great start and have 4 or 5 points more than I thought we would of by now,so all though I hope not,we can afford a little slump now then fixtures ease a a little, then we can kick on finish strong.

  • Mystic meg says:

The fixtures between jan 1 and end of feb look much better, I see 15 points there , then we can relax, as fans not the team,Sam won’t allow that one of the things I like about Sam,he gets the players so fit,so we won’t tail off and cruise in coyi.

    • Gary Troia says:

So, Mystic, with your 8 before Christmas, and your 15 after, plus the 14 already, we’ll be 7 short of the magical 40 by the end of Feb.

      • Big Tone says:

Bottom line is this-no relegation for us this season. The only way is up!

        • Gary Troia says:

Yes, it’s happy days at the moment, but we need to strengthen in January and hope that we don’t get any more injuries to key players and Chelsea don’t recall Benayoun.

  • Mystic meg says:

8+15+14=37 Makes just 3 short your good at writing and spelling but maths as already proven with big tony, not your strong point .

  • Mystic meg says:

Maybe he should write things down.lol

  • Roy says:

I have just read the oppersitions view of our game last saturday. Southampton fans wrote comments like’ despite paying against a poor team low on ability’ ‘ The ref was conned by Carrol;s constant diving and falling allowing WHU to score from set pieces’ Upton Pk makes the Emirates seem quiet. i think someone shoukld point out to the Scummers that they lost 4–1 and that playing nice triangles 60yrds from the oppersitions goal does not win games. Was we disciplined and organised ? yes. Are we strong and physical ? yes are we better than S,hampton YES !

  • Gary Troia says:

Roy, I have a Saints friend who went to the game and is a season ticket holder. He said that West Ham played well and thoroughly desrved it. He said that their second half performance was embarrassing!
