Three points are a must

|

I think we can all agree that so far West Ham has exceeded all expectations in regard to the start of our first season back in the Premier League.

What I have really enjoyed about West Ham’s performances this year, is not the amount of points we have or the position in the league, but the honesty of the performances.

There has been a collective honesty and endeavour about the team, a group of players that seem to be all pulling in the same direction. Andy Carroll has come in as a star, but has really knuckled down and seems to be relishing the challenge.

But now the honey moon period is over. We have lost at home to a very good Arsenal side which taught us a bit of a lesson -although we did match them for periods in the game.

We have to beat Southampton on Saturday. Not only for our confidence, but to move ten points clear of them and the others at the bottom who will also hopefully lose.

Southampton will be targeting this game, so we have to come out all guns blazing with the attitude that we know we can score more goals than them. If we can score an early goal, I think they will panic and we could put a Fulham type number of goals against them.

Ricardo Vaz Te is out injured. Therefore it seems that Yossi Benayoun will take his place, and for me, this is a far better balanced team, at least on paper.

I don’t think Vaz Te is a natural starter as he is far too flaky in my opinion, whereas Benayoun has more guile and nous about him.

I’m predicting a 3 – 1 win, with Andy Carroll to score his first goal. The team for me should be: Jaaskelainen, McCartney, Reid, Collins, Demel; Noble, Diame, Nolan, Benayoun, Jarvis; Carroll.

At the time of writing I didn’t know that Demel would be injured, therefore I suppose I would replace him with O’Brien.

Doesn’t the thought of benayoun and o’brien on the same wing worry you against the likes of lallana and lambert? Just to inject a bit of pace of you go with o’brien at RB then play miaga on the wing

    I had a dream last night……Carroll scored a hat-trick.

Good point,Scott, but I think Benayoun could unlock their defence early, then bring Maiga on with twenty five to go to really ram it home.

As a Southampton fan, i am hoping for a win, i think who ever scores 1st will seal it,
we are putting a few away, but letting more in,so if we have not sorted our defence we could go back in the bottom 3,
but a good chance for both sides,
lets hope for an entertaining game of football,
i wish all you hammers the best of luck for the rest of the season (just not today), your team has started very well and am rooting for you to beat the bigger teams,
i have to finish with COYR, and the score 2.1 to the saints

Welcome to our world, Roberto. We appreciate your magnanimous comments. I think that you can stay up owing to you scoring enough goals – just not to day please.

well what can i say to reply,
we were rubbish (bloodly shit)to be honest, and i wish the hammers all the best for the season,(the 4th goal i believe is a peach of a goal), keep up the good work you hammers, and hopefully the return match will be more of a game,
i thought we done well for the 1st half but 2nd half as always we played like a championship side, and we will never stay up like that,
so well played, your boys derserved it, and next game maybe Carroll will score that hat-trick
