The return of Jack

|

I’m pretty much there or thereabouts – I just need to get some minutes under my belt.”

This was the news that West Ham midfielder Jack Collison is hoping to return to action in the next few weeks following a knee injury that has kept him out of action since the Play-off Final in May. His return can only be good news for the Hammers but it begs the question – where will he fit into the team?

The 23-year-old Welsh international has been plagued over the last few seasons by the persistent knee injury that kept him out for 14 months and almost of the entirety of the 2010-11 season.

The Welsh midfielder has made 78 league appearances for the club and played a major part in the Npower Championship promotion campaign last term scoring twice in the Play-Off Semi final first leg against Cardiff City. However the addition of midfielders Mohamed Diame, Alou Diarra, Matt Jarvis and Yossi Benayoun to the squad Collison will mean he will find his chances this season more limited than last.

This might be a blessing in disguise in as much as that his injury needs to be managed. His return to first team will be able to be a slow process and our strength in depth now means that he won’t have to be relied upon as much as he was last season. The 2008-9 Young Hammer of the Year can be gradually eased back to first team action which will be better for West Ham in the long term.

As with many footballers that have serious knee injuries rehabilitation can be a difficult process but bringing him back to full fitness in a slower manner than previously will hopefully mean that we’ll see Jack back to best.

I think we should cash in on Jack as soon as possible.

He’s never been the same since his injury at Wigan.

It’s a shame he’s never achieved his potential

Another must stay Player. Jack has been unlucky with injuries, but given time he has the capability to become one of the Top Midfielders . Up to the time of his injury, he was probably our best Prospect along with Tomkins.Gives his all, proving his value in the Play Off Run In.
