The Great Olympic Stadium debate: time to get on board and back the board

|

For West Ham it is the right thing. We will deliver the legacy everyone wants, attracting people to the Olympic Park……” said David Gold.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Well I have been reading polls and blogs and it is clear that everyone does not want to move for one reason or another. I even read on one blog that one of the reasons the writer loved the Boleyn Ground was that it amused him when the ball got stuck on the corrugated roof.  Another reason he gave was that he liked the smell of beer and cigs in the North Bank.

As West Ham fans we need to stop believing in twisted nostalgia, looking through claret and blue glasses that need a bloody good clean.  What we do need to do is get behind the current board who have put their money where their mouths are and have a vision for the future.

Looking for experience? Just want to be heard outside of the Boleyn? We are currently looking for writers, drop us an email at foreverwestham@snack-media.com for more details

There are certain issues that have to be ironed out before we move to the Olympic Stadium, but let us do it when we have arrived.  The future does not lie at the Boleyn Ground; it awaits us at the Olympic Stadium where we can become a truly big team which can attract truly big players.

So I urge you, fellow Hammers’, let us move forwards together as one, by creating a lasting legacy for the future.

Ever dreamt about getting paid for reading about West Ham? Well now you can make dreams a reality http://bit.ly/ffc-foreverwestham-lp

    What about the running track?

  • Ian says:

Never a truer word spoken, mind you I did’nt want the East Stand to replace the chicken run, lol We must move on the Olympic Stadium is the only way to go….

  • Ian says:

Re tractable seats Kevin as in the Stade de France..

    • Gary Troia says:

You took the words out of my mouth, Ian. The main thing is, Kevin, that we must not miss this golden opportunity.

  • Gary Troia says:

Hello Lawrence, I really appreciate your input. And in your words: “it is going to cost a bomb” are absolutely correct. However, together we must find solutions for a legacy that will live for the next hundred years of West Ham history.

  • Anne says:

Do you really think we will fill it. and yes re-tractable seats but is there going to be a roof, and believe me that if you are sitting in the seats many people l know that have been there for the Olympics say it is a lovely Stadium but not for football as it so far way and they pity us if we go there. I myself and the 86% who voted against do not want to go. Yes they have p
ut money in but that is so they can get it back and more when they sell the ground do not not forget the are primarily Business Men

    • Gary Troia says:

You raise some valid concerns, Anne. We may not fill it at first, but in time, with investment in the team, I believe we will. And who are these people who are going to pity us in a state of the art Olympic Stadium? Jealous fans of other clubs. Let us not forget that Spurs tried to muscle in. Be brave and jump on board.

  • Anne says:

L forgot to say when l went on a WHU Stadium Tour a few years back we were told that plans had been been passed to turn it into a 42000 that we be far better off as we will not have the West Ham atmosphere in the new one.

The sooner West Ham United play at the Olympic Stadium the better. It would be a ‘not to be missed’ opportunity to finally elevate the club to another level, something that former West Ham owners always ignored. I read somewhere that ‘West Ham are the only significant English club never to have won a Championship’ …The story could have been very different if former directors had invested in the club from the mid-60’s on, instead of pocketing all of the profits!

The move to the olympic stadium just not to do with the venue capacity. Its has great transport links as well as the whole commercial package that comes with Westfield. Lets face it if you want to be a premiership team you need money. We may even attract a decent kit sponsor like adidas or nike. If we renting the place for 10 mill a year, i think we could be taking all the profits from boxing and Live Music events from the stadium too. Remember also Gold and Sullivan are West Ham Supporters!! birmingham was a business venture within their love of football. I remember reading an article when they took over that they would ideally like to give club the back to the fans by floating it in the future, that would be amazing being able to buy shares in West Ham. Alternatively lets say we move to the OS, we sell UP, get major sponsored and a billionaire wants to buy us out. G and S sell for mega money and make a £100m profit who would begrudge them the profit if they have our club in the best position in years!!! They have worked hard for their money and have taken a huge risk buying west ham the club was in 100 million in debt!!! They wont sell WHUFC if the deal is not right for the club they have supported since children. They have also put 100 mill in transfer fees into our club out of their own pocket. We need G & S more than they need us. I believe these are the best Chairman and in Karen the best MD we have ever had, I do wish they would not be in the papers as much but hey they own the club so why not? I am excited for WHUFC’s future and of course the OS seating plan and running track, retractable seating is a huge worry but its something were going to have to get over. The premiership is changing fast with more and more money being put in from foreign investors, if we dont take the OS we will not be an attractive club for anyone we owe £100m to the banks, there are whole load of clubs in the prem and championship that look like better investments at the minute. We need to face facts until we finish mid table again we are also still a bottom of the division team, we could even still go down. If we dont secure the OS my fear is we could well end up being a championship club within a few years then you will really be regularly seeing hoof football and sight lines wont matter as you wont be too bothered about going to watch. We need this move!

  • Daniel says:

Just wanted to add, Big Sams the best WHUFC manager in a long time too! Its so refreshing to see players giving their all for the club!! and showing some heart and fighting spirit. To me its more important than skill!

  • Peter Howard says:

We have to move, times change & we must change with them to survive. This will also give us an opportunity to become a top six side. I can then stop talking about past glorys & look forward to some new ones!

  • cb says:

err there was a poll last week on Kumb that came back 68% FOR the move

Not sure how you can say everyone is against it?
