The FIVE things that sometimes make it hard being a Hammer

|

As much as we all love the mighty Hammers, there are a few things that cause us a few sleepless nights, Katherine Adler gives her thoughts on what Hammers fans wouldn’t mind living without.

Selling off the Academy players – It’s all very well bringing all the players through the system, but then we let them go, and then some of them don’t seem to be better off – Joe Cole was a hero amongst Hammers fans, and doesn’t seem to have been given a real chance at Liverpool. We never seem to hold on to our home grown talent, and have become a feeder club to the big fish of the Premier League.

Terrible Managers in recent years – Uncle Avram – need I say any more?! The board seemed to hold on to him for ages, despite letting Zola, who kept us up, go prematurely. We just don’t seem to have a manager that’s really cared about the club. Hopefully Allardyce is the man for the job.

Bad Ownership – When the Icelandic owners were in charge, West Ham was a club in crisis. The financial crisis meant that former owner Gudmundsson lost £230million, leaving the future of the club in doubt. Curbishley famously left the club after players were sold without his say-so. Even though the two Davids’ like to run their mouths in the press, hopefully they’ll let Big Sam make the big decisions.

The Rollercoaster! – I know, I know. I’ve put it this in a previous article as a good thing. However would actually like it if one time we weren’t in the relegation scrap when in the Premier League. It’s exciting and nail biting, but imagine if we could afford to keep our players! Imagine if we made a steady rise to mid-table mediocrity! Sorry, was that a bit too unrealistic? I’d just like a bit of stability.

Last 5 minutes of any game – This is when any Iron knows that no matter how strong our lead is, it will be challenged repeatedly while our players lose the plot. Twice already this season we’ve dropped points in the last few minutes of the second half. It’s not good enough and a habit that really needs to be cut short.

Overall though, without the aforementioned points, West Ham wouldn’t be the wonderful club we love today.

It is the same at many clubs. Hanging on at the end happens all over the league, it has happened twice this season and the rest of the times the team have been strong. I don’t worry about it and I hate the way everyone keeps harping on about it like it is an epidemic.
