My proudest moments as a Hammer

|

Before you start reading, I’m 22 and haven’t lived through the years that West Ham effectively won the World Cup, or for example won the 1980 FA Cup Final. So, my top 5 moments will probably be different to a lot of people’s! Hearing Bubbles at the Olympic opening ceremony was definitely a proud moment for all Hammers fans, so I’ve taken a look at some other moments from our recent history.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

1. Play-off Final (both 1st and 2nd times) – Remember when we had to go to Cardiff for the final instead of Wembley? And remember Bobby Zamora firing in that shot against Preston North End to get us back into the Premier League? And we won’t go into too much detail about what happened between then and this year’s play-off final, but it was amazing to see our boys win at Wembley and get us back to where we belong… again! It’s West Ham, we can’t just go up automatically you see.

2. FA Cup Final – We may well have lost the 2006 FA Cup Final to Liverpool (well, Gerrard), but we gave it a bloody good go. I was so so proud at how well we did and how we fought to try and be the victors. Nobody was expecting us to get as far as we did anyway, and if it wasn’t for Steven Gerrard I know we would have won that FA Cup.

3. Paolo Di Canio’s fair play – He’s not exactly the person you think of first when fair play is mentioned, but cast your mind back to when he caught the ball when the Everton ‘keeper Paul Gerrard was floored by injury outside the penalty area. Although some West Ham fans were less than pleased with the feisty Italian for ruining a goal scoring opportunity, the majority were bloody proud of what he did.

4. Tev keeping us up on the last day – Remember the last day of the 06-07 season, and that little tyke we all know and love, Carlos Tevez? Well, we were away at Old Trafford and needed a miracle to stay up. And stay up we did, thanks to a single goal from the Argentinian. It was so amazing to survive by the skin of our teeth, if only we could have kept Tev!

5. Not giving up when 3-0 down – This is the day that Scott Parker conned everyone into thinking he was our full-time captain; when he gave that rousing half time speech that Carlton Cole was raving about in the post match interview. Apparently some of the coaching staff were even close to tears. I was massively proud of the boys as they really showed what they could do. It’s just a shame they didn’t show the same passion and fight in every match that season…
