What to do with Nicky Maynard?

|

From the second this signing was made, West Ham fans were on the edge of their feet as they finally felt they had a player capable of delivering the goals needed to fire us back into the Premier League. His a player who is blessed with such pace and finishing, a real poacher and considering he was signed for a fee what is seen as now days as “on the cheap” why has he never been given the run of games he needs and where has he vanished too? The player I am talking about is of course Nicky Maynard.

After his capture from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee, Nicky Maynard has only gone on to make 14 appearances, scoring a poor return of 2 goals, admittedly most of the appearances have come as late substitutions. But why did Sam Allardyce sign him if he is not going to play week in week out, to keep the bench warm? To add competition for places? So that Bristol City had less fire power? Or did he actually have high hopes for him.

There are many question marks over why Big Sam signed Ricardo Vaz Te, Sam Baldock and Nicky Maynard last season, considering the formation and style of approach we adapted to playing, with Carlton Cole often occupying the lone striker role with Ricardo Vaz Te on one wing and Mathew Taylor on the other. However, could Nicky Maynard be capable of taking that role of Carlton Cole and start to prove his worth and fight for his place? I myself feel he needs a fellow striker alongside him to get his best aspects out, but he is capable of delivering a bit of magic on his own now and then, but that in my opinion is not plausible to automatically give him a role in the starting eleven.

The truth of the matter is, he just isn’t what Big Sam wants anymore, maybe when we were in the Championship getting a player of his calibre was a sign of intent and maybe he felt he would deliver when called upon. However, now that we are back in the Premiership he looks surplus the requirements and don’t be surprised if he leaves soon, with reports via the tabloids and Twitter suggesting we are still on the hunt for a possible 2 strikers.

Expect to see at least 6-8 signings to walk through the door at Upton Park and with a possible 2-4 walking the opposite direction.

Three goals, he scored 3 goals. why is no on counting the one he scored in the semi final second leg play offs? if we let him go he will come back to bite us in the bum you mark my words.

He’ll at least be main back up for the attacking areas, Maiga-Cole-Vaz Te will start and Maynard will be used on either wing or through the center. Kazim-Richards will probably get signed as i heard hes doing alright on trial and either Carroll or another striker will come in, Baldock will probably leave unfortunately and Hall will be developed.

Good pace, good heart but championship player ,was with a load of bristol city fans on a break away in cyprus and he was a god there, i feel he will get goals but way to light weight at the top level hope he gets a chance, but do i think he is as good as sammy
sorry no bristol boys get the last laugh

He won’t be biting our bums unless we go down again !!!! Not a premiership striker , we need much better than that if we wanna stay up !!! Shame , but don’t think he would do anything in the top league !!!!

  • His certainly a good player, but with the likes of Cole, Maiga, Vaz Te and the possible signing of 2 more strikers, be sure Maynard will be far down the pecking order. As someof you have suggested, we need more flair and power to deal with the Prem! COYI!

Awful post. “On the edge of their feet”? Are you mentally retarded? You can even spell he’s. It’s he’s not his!
