Is this free agent a safe bet for West Ham?

|

We are forever hearing about the next big player to join us, we are being linked with the most absurd players and if we could get the names of Andy Carroll then that would be a great signing for us. Though we must be weary of trying to sure up the defence and sign a player with lots of Premier League experience. It is well documented, and most West Ham fans are convinced, that our current crop of right backs is not up to the job, so is Gretar Steinsson?

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Gretar is a decorated international footballer, being a long serving player for Iceland. He has spent lots of time across Europe, playing for AZ Alkmaar and then moving to the Premier League with Bolton Wanderers for 3.5 million pounds 4 years ago. Since then he has been a vital part of that side playing 126 times for the trotters, he played for Bolton when they were having a solid career of consolidation in the Premier League and as we all know it just didn’t work out for Bolton last year.

Just because he had one year of a relegation, doesn’t make him a bad player and he could be a highly committed defender. He could enjoy linking up with some of his old teammates at Bolton such as Jussi Jaaskelainen and Matt Taylor, though is he good enough of a signing to keep us in the Premier League.

He might be, we are desperately calling out for an experienced full back to join us and as Steinnson is a free agent, he could be a cheap temporary hold to the position. He was playing for Bolton for a long time for a reason I suppose.

Though do we need Gretar Steinnson?

Probably not, he is 30 and he is only the same quality of Guy Demel and I’d rather see Danny Potts get a chance in the team as a second or 3rd choice player than signing Steinnson.

Another poor player when we need Kaka, Tevez, and Carroll. Next you’ll be saying we are after Tel Ben Haim!!!

If you repeatedly don’t like what you read somewhere, stop bloody reading it.

If I do something and it hurts I don’t keep doing it and then go moaning to everybody about how much it hurts.

      Use your brain.

And if you can do better, start your own blog. Do something constructive.

Iam the same i feel our back line is the weak link this season keepers looked a joke when i saw both in germany.think any addition now is a good one as demel, linda, reid, ang ginge are all 5 out of 10 players and i ask you is that going to be enough this year. I hope big sam pulls a few out the bag or i can see us praying for carlitos to go home and save us again im january

Hiya, Bolton fan here thought this article was gonna be about Carlos Sanchez then because it is reported West Ham are interested! Steinsson is a top player on his day and has a good couple of years left in him at 30. Was a great servant to Bolton and could still do a good job in the prem!

Can you believe jokers would post just to have a whinge about the article?

    Good luck for the season!

Cheers Mick, sick of seeing my supposed fellow hammers on the negative run! Steinsson has a lot to offer. Experience is what we bloody well need! Up for you lads to bounce back first run by! P.s.take BFS if you want him!

  • someone says:

Dan Potts is a left back. So cover at right back might be needed.

  • Nightwatchman says:

No harm in bringing him in if Joey O’Brien goes. But we need a better quality RB than Steinnson. This position should be our number one priority along with at least one quality defensive midfielder. Another centre forward is less important than filling these two postions.
