Rumour Mill: Would this QPR striker really improve our options?

|

This summer, along with most available strikers in Europe, West Ham have been linked with QPR’s striker Jamie Mackie. It’s not the first time that we’ve been linked with the five times capped Scotland international – we were also linked with him in January. But who is Jamie Mackie?

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Well he started his career at Wimbledon’s youth team and progressed to the first team making his debut in 2003 before joining Conference side Exeter City where he had the unremarkable scoring record of 19 goals in 89 matches. 12 of these goals came in 27 appearances during the 2007–08 season and this attracted interest from other clubs and he signed for Plymouth Argyle in the January transfer window, scoring twice on his debut in the Championship. He appeared regularly for the club over the next two years and finished as the club’s top goalscorer in the 2009–10 season. He then joined Queens Park Rangers in May 2010, signing a four year contract for an undisclosed fee.

In total he has scored 54 goals in 284 games. Quite a poor scoring record of a goal every 5.2 games. This begs the question would he improve our striking options and also don’t we have enough low scoring strikers in our squad? I’m not convinced that this potential signing would offer any more than we already have and I’d would be keen to give Sam Baldock a run especially after his goals in preseason.

But what do you think? Is this just regurgitated news? If so when are going to be linked with Eidur Gudjohnsen again? And more to the point is Mackie any good? Let us know?

I am really hoping this is a agent trying to get Mackie a move. If this is the sort of player we are going to bring in to keep us up in the hardest league in the world we are in big trouble. If Gold and Sullivan think he will they are deluded.

Why are the teams that are going to be around us making the deals we should be. Let’s get Zaha just pay the money palace want and if (a very big if we can get Carroll on loan ) then look at the back line. Half the players we are link with are not proven

Don’t know what more Sam has to do? He’s our most natural finisher and a country mile better than Mackie. Need to put our voices behind Sam at the next game.

you west ham fans are so deluded talking like your much better than a player like mackie, hes played winger for qpr the last two seasons and not as an out an out striker, the guys never played in the prem and comes in the season halfway through after a broken leg and scores 9 goals. he works his nuts off and is a team player, not a shitty center forward as you make him out to be

  • Rhys Baird says:

Mackie is a pacey winger and would fit in well. Him and Rvt along side Cole wont scare many but could be effective!

  • Peter Howard says:

    The answer is NO!
Always buy better than you have, Mackie is not.

This is stale news as far as I’m concerned and the reason why we were linked with him anyway was because we were probably interested in him during the Jan transfer window. We are NOW in the Premiership! Some genius has put 2+2 together and come up with 5!
We are almost certainly interested in Andy Carroll or Modibo Maiga…… NOT Mackie!

    Scare mongering again!

Buying this guy and selling Baldock would be the most mental bit of business imaginable.

Right up there with selling Diamanti and buying Picquionne.

  • Ironman says:

Terrific energy, can play wide right in a front 3 or as a striker in a 4-4-2. Overall would be a good squad player for less than £1,000,000 and would work well in the likely counter-attacking style we will adopt for most games.

Fed up with people banging on about Zaha, Rohdes and all these other young and expensive players that are unproven in the top flight. If were going to spend £8m on a player then we want him to be proven at the highest level, between 24-28 years of age with experience who can be a vital member of the team. Clubs like Manchester United can pay top dollar for promising youngster because they already have a quality proven player in the same position while the young blood develop into regular performers in the Premier League. What West Ham United need to focus on is building a solid squad of players with experience of the prem with a solid spine and establish ourselves over the next 4 years whilst bringing through some of the academy boys like Potts and Hall and get Morrison more involved in the team.

Mackie is NOT proven in the premier league as he hardly played last season and when he did he didn’t impress. Just another very average squad player.
