What’s it like being a Hammer right now?

|

Being a Hammer at the moment is an absolute joy. Had we lost the Wembley showdown against Ian Holloway’s Blackpool we’d be looking at a summer of uncertainty and frustration; a summer in which our best were constantly being linked with other clubs and cut price players not fit to pull on that Claret and Blue would’ve been lined up to replace them.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

But I think I speak for us all when I say everything is just roses at the mo! Every day in the press we seem to be linked with big name after big name; why just on Friday we were linked with European football royalty in Guti. But it doesn’t stop there with us being continually linked with the likes of Krasic, Elia, Benayoun, Zaha, Anelka etc. Unfortunately there is no crystal ball to inform us of which deals will come off and which will fall by the way-side; but it’s all exciting nevertheless.

The brand spanking new Barclays Premier League fixtures are released on Monday…after a season away it’s a bit of an understatement to say we’ll all be waiting with baited breath to renew a few acquaintances. There are so many games to look forward to next season: Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea are London derbies to inspire and excite. Not to mention clashes against Man’s City and United, Match of the day, Monday night football and super Sunday! Compare that to the dross that was the champ in which Leeds and Millwall were the only two fixtures to jump off the page and neither club make for the most glamorous of opponents in my humble opinion.

This is just a time for Hammers fans to just relax, enjoy the speculation and see if we can indeed bring in an Anelka or a Guti to make a statement of intent that next season we don’t intend to set our sights merely on 17th but instead we recognise that there is a lot of dross currently in the league and that if we are bold enough we can overtake that block of mediocrity and maybe even cement ourselves in the serenity of mid-table…top 10 perhaps?

The moment the fixtures are released on Monday is the moment it will suddenly dawn that we are back and hopefully we’ll never leave again.

Everyone suggesting a top 10 finish is mad. I dont mean to be pessimistic,or be seen as a bad fan, but I feel over expectation is the reason for so much frustration in past years. We will most likely be involved in a relegation dogfight. Who do we expect to be better than? Other than Wigan, Fulham maybe and Norwich, there will be no easy games, even against Reading and Southampton.

We will be ok, add to the list above WBA, QPR, Swansea (lost there manager) stoke, all teams we shld be competing with. I reckon 12th or 13th. If some of those deals come off maybe 10th and if we have a dose of luck. One thing i will say is that this team plays for Sam and that is something that was definately lacking for the last 3-4 years

The problem is we are being linked with many! but what actual signings, one goal keeper aged 37 another ex pal of Sam’s – it was no time since we signed Henderson and he was being painted as our next goal keeper with great talent, what message does this send to him.

Then we are linked with other players aged over 32! while there is talk of off loading Baldock and now Maynard? does Sam have a problem dealing with young players.

Now the latest is clubs wanting Tomkins and Vaz Tez?

I know the Euro’s are on but which other club has all this silly talk or is it silly?

Well I’m a realist and look at what we produced last year in the Championship and think are we going to competed with the like of QPR, Swansea Stoke and alike I struggle to see how unless we bring in 5 or 6 topquaility proven Premiership performers, we are not a strong enough side and cant see us being outside the bottom 6 all season, unless we have quaility. look at QPR, cisse, Zamora, Johnson upfront, Wright Phillips on the wing Green in goal, overall looks a solid Premiership side, Swansea wont be as good as last season but they have the best midfield in the Premiership on paper stats, Stoke have quality through there ranks as well, I will change my mind about the coming season when we have done our business and are ready to start but at the moment I am concerned

Our current squad is not good enough for the Prem, end of.

    • Martin says:

      Your an idiot

      • Dave says:

Why? Because I’m realistic? We are being linked with a number of players from teams relegated last season. These players are seen as improvements on our current squad, so if these supposedly better players got relegated, what chance do our current squad have? Who do we have that is Prem quality? Tomkins, Noble, Nolan, Taylor and now Diame. Wow, thats a short list. We need a new CB, two full backs, two new wingers, in case Vaz Te isn’t all he is talked up to be and a striker.

  • zola says:

It is not about the players’ quality alone as we proved when we were relegated in 2002/03. It is about a good manager – Sam is that. Team ethic – good team spirit based around spine of Tomkins, Reid , Noble, Nolan, Cole, Vaz Te

I hate these blogs, 70% of Hammer fans think they know everything but know nothing, also so negative at every discussion about West Ham. Please tell me why these negative people actually support West Ham, we must be the worst club for it. Negativity produces poor productivity, that’s from the bottom to the top and top to bottom. West Ham have now got good owners, good manager and a group of good players, so surley it’s time for the 70% of fans to do their job and get a positive attitude to match the other 30%. I’ve never seen or heard other fans right their team off without a ball even being kicked. COYI fans get with the programme and job on board for a big push!!

    • Dave says:

Its not our job to do the players job, the job they are grossly overpaid for, the job that we fund from our tickets. Its not fun to pay £60 for a ticket, plus travel expenses, to see your team loose. Not fun at all. And thats what football is, isn’t it, entertainment? I support West Ham because I love the club and what it has done. Its a shame we cant repeat that great history.
