This article is going to be short and sweet, for the simple reason that no; I don’t believe that we will or should be pushing for Europe AT ALL. This is a club still climbing out of its debt-ridden financial state, and we need to solely focus on staying in the Premier League rather than focussing on gaining a place in Europe.
The money from qualifying for Europe and the prestige from finishing high in the table is obviously a very attractive prospect, but I don’t think it’s one that we can realistically expect from our first season back in the Premier League. It may also take our team a while to gel with the new additions that look to be joining the squad, and I just don’t think that Europe should be on the players’ minds; it’s too much pressure and too much of a distraction.
Whilst it would be lovely if we did end up pushing for a top 6 finish come the twilight of the season, I’m not going to be expecting a place in the Europa league in the 13/14 campaign. I think the sole focus of this season is to stay up comfortably, and build some financial security so that we can push on in following seasons and set a strong Premier League foundation for the club.

Im simply amazed people would even consider it. Have people been ignoring the prem this season? Have they not noticed the quality of the teams in the top 6? Its going to be a difficult dogfight to avoid relegation, and that’s the reality of it. People expecting a comfortable top 10 finish are deluded.
I agree we would be better off not aiming for Europe this year. Also we should hold back on signing Messi and swapping Allardyce for Mourinho, at least for this season.
Whilst I agree with staying away from Messi for a while, I dont think getting Mourinho is unrealistic.Surely he would want to swap sunny Madrid for East London? Also we should put in cheeky bids for Neymar, Ozil, Hummels, Van Persie and Bale.
I dont think we can get a top 6 place this season but if we do all well and good,runs in the cup comps might be out best hope of glory in what should be a hard but productive first season back in the top flight.
