This isn’t Football Manager, Sam!

|

It appears Sam Allardyce has taken on the trademark Football Manager approach, buy forwards forget defenders.

West Ham are linked with yet another striker this time Grant Holt, now I’m not arguing he would add something to the squad, but this comes after link after link with strikers including Yakubu, Kenwyne Jones and Nicolas Anelka. Although I agree the need for a striker with Premier League experience is important, I am far more worried about the defence.

We may be close to sorting out the left back position with George McCartney set to re-join after a successful loan spell at the club, he is not the only player who could be set to join from Sunderland,

Kieran Richardson looks also set to join according to the Twitter world anyway. So with Matty Taylor already at the club, and with Richardson and McCartney set to join the left back berth looks secure, and with youngster Dan Potts also there the Hammers can leave that side alone.

But my main concern for next season is the right back berth, the Hammers had Joey O’Brien who I think could act as good cover along with Guy Demel, but if I was in charge I wouldn’t want them two as my starting right back. Guy Demel at times struggled in the Championship and the plays off final confirmed my fears, anyone with trickery and pace cause him trouble not to mention his injury record. Now I would love to see us sign Nathaniel Clyne from Crystal Palace the young and highly sought of right back, who would bring pace and a player who loves to bomb forward. For me he is the player we should be going all out to sign.

Following the release of Abdoulaye Faye it leaves the Irons short at the back, with just Winston Reid and James Tomkins the only experienced centre backs at the club. So it is also important we sign one or two centre backs, one as cover and one to push Reid and Tomkins all the way for a starting place in next seasons 11. It is hard to suggest names but I’m sure Allardyce has players on him long list and it is still early days.

For the number one jersey it appears Stephen Henderson will have plenty of competition next season if Twitter is to be believed. West Ham are set to sign Jussi Jääskeläinen and will move for another keeper with Fulham David Stockdale as well as links with Paul Robinson from Blackburn, so the battle for the goalkeeping place come August will be fierce during pre-season.

With a little over two months until the Premier League season kicks off, there is a lot of refreshing of Newsnow and the Official site to come, but one thing is for certain this window is going to be a busy as West Ham prepare for their return to the big time.

Come on you Irons!

we can not possibly sign every player that has been linked to us in press in the last week, of course just because we’re ”linked” with a player doesn’t mean that BFS really wants him!!! We need a striker so everyone is linked. A shotgun approach by lazy journalists, say enough names & they are bound 2 hit lucky at some time. Don’t believe what you read… 99% is a load of bull***t

You would think every year we would learn how the agents work. Apparently Not

We should have signed Clyne last season when we had the chance. He’s as good as gone to Man U now.

I really rate Reid and tomkins. They have played together a lot nowand I think Reid is getting better all the time. Honestly think tomkins is one of the best defenders in Europe, that is how much I rate him. Demel did well but had a bad play off final. Right back and left back would be great with demel and McCartney as cover. Noble, Nolan, collison seem to have a real togetherness. Makes sense that we are going for elmohammedy if we bring in holt. Don’t think we need that much, at least gold and Sullivan won’t spend stupid amounts of wages like the Icelandic owners #countyourblessings
