RUMOUR MILL:Premier League Captain on Hammers Shopping List

|

So let’s get this right. We have been linked with; Jordan Rhodes, Nicky Maynard, Billy Sharp, Bobby Zamora, Andy Johnson, and that’s just off the top of my head. These six players have two things in common in the eyes of the Hammers fans. The first is simply obvious, they are all strikers. Well the second is obvious too; all of these players have been linked with a move to Upton Park with none actually happening.

It’s hardly surprising due to our late inability to score goals that Big Sam is on the prowl for a striker, or six.

Due to recent reports the very lucky man next on Allardyce’s shopping list is Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies. Now, what I don’t understand is that the majority of twitter is slating this move like Davies is the next Paul Ince. Personally although, yes. Don’t get me wrong I can see where the fans are coming from. The Bolton number 14 is 34 years old. No spring chicken by any stretch of the imagination. And yes his pace has gone (if it was ever there), he is starting to accumulate injury’s and he is most probably coming to the end of his career.

However, I personally think Davies would be a decent signing for us, he has a wealth of Premier League experience and I think he would be more prolific in the championship than he can be in the Premier League. The striker is a good target man and could make quite a partnership with Carlton Cole. The only thing I don’t admire about Davies is his goal scoring ability. 64 goals in 303 appearances for Bolton is not what we are looking for at all.

So, although Davies would in my opinion be a decent signing for us I think he is the wrong side of 30 and doesn’t score enough goals for us to be looking at him as a main transfer and striker.

Anyway it will please some Hammers to know that this move, like all of our others (bar George John) this month doesn’t look like it will happen. Owen Coyle has denied reports of us making any approach for his captain and it looks as if Davies will be staying put this transfer window.
