Does this Hammers loan spell tell the whole story?

|

West Ham youngster Frank Nouble had a decent loan spell at League 2 side Gillingham earlier this season. He scored five goals in 10 games for the Gills before he was recalled by the Hammers due to the squad’s injury crisis.

After many loan spells at clubs in the Football League, Nouble scored his first goal for West Ham in the 2-1 defeat to Derby County on New Year’s Eve. However, Nouble missed chances that can only be described as ‘costly sitters’ in the next two games against Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.

After Nouble’s spell at Gillingham, is he as good as loan spell suggests?

People must remember than Nouble is still inexperienced. He may have had a lot of loan spells and missed a couple of chances lately but he hasn’t played many matches, under 50 I believe, so to expect great things from him is unrealistic.

The only way we can judge Nouble is if he gets a regular run in the side. He is only 20 years old so regular first-team experience will help him greatly.

If Nouble gets some playing time from now until the end of the season I’m sure we will see an improvement in him. Regular match experience and training with good players on a consistent players would help and young player.

Hopefully Sam Allardyce will get sell John Carew and Freddie Piquionne who have been poor this season and start playing youngsters like Nouble and Robert Hall. A proven goal-scorer would also help as well.
