Striking reinforcements are clearly needed if we are to seal enough wins from the remaining 21 games, to get us over the line in this particular marathon.
Freddie Piquionne and John Carew seem surplus to requirements as both have 2 goals each all season and it’s simply not good enough for a side looking to finish in the top 2 of the league. In a perfect world we could simply give Huddersfield the pair of them for their striking sensation Jordan Rhodes…in reality we’re probably going to be priced out of a move for Rhodes and we’ll have to keep hold of at least one of our misfiring target men.
I would be inclined to keep Carew if I had to choose one of the two. I see him solely as back up to Carlton Cole; should he get injured or suspended. Whilst he’s shown himself to be simply not prolific enough his ability to hold up the ball would be essential if Cole was unavailable; especially given Sam’s favoured 4-3-3 formation needing a big target man as its focal point.

I fail to see what Piquionne offers; he’s only really scored one goal this season because the goal at Coventry was either a moment of genius or an absolute fluke…I’m inclined to go with the latter. I’ve been surprised at how poor Freddie’s been this campaign, last season in a mainly bit-part role in the Premier League he still came up with goals on a fairly consistent basis and he caused problems for opposition defences with his aerial ability and quick feet. Piq would probably point to the fact he hasn’t really been given a run in the side with only 8 league starts to his name but the truth is whenever he has been given an opportunity he has looked distinctly average at a level he should be excelling at.
In truth though both Carew and Piquionne have shown themselves to be not good enough even at Championship level, hence why a new forward is needed…with 21 fixtures remaining I would speculate that we’d need to win a minimum of 16 to secure automatic promotion. Such a figure seems unlikely without more goals in the side.

We should trade both in for a traffic cone as that would be more use than the pair of them! Just want to watch players showing some fight and pride in wearing the shirt, sadly neither player has shown that this season. COYI
