FIVE Things we learnt about West Ham over the festive period

|

5. What happens when you make tickets affordable to the public? Surprise surprise you get a full Upton Park. Mr Gold and Sullivan hit the nail on the head with both home fixtures before and after Christmas against no disrespect to Barnsley or Coventry lower league opposition so to get a full house is really a credit to not only Gold and Sullivan but the fans that snapped up these cheap tickets and get along to support their team. More full houses will surely lead to more home wins as it’s a fact that us fans help the team through.

4. The fans as we know it are fantastic, the emotion, pride and the passion is second to none. The way we follow is impeccable taking three thousands to Derby on New Year ’s Eve is an incredible effort and to all of you that went I salute you. Not only the away effort, as said in number 5 the support at home has improved no end. Instead of getting on players backs the fans continue to encourage the mood has changed about the place and the buzz is back which has led to a new improved atmosphere. Over the Christmas period when times are at their hardest the support is still there and it’s a credit to the fans at this club.

3. The visits of Coventry and Barnsley to the Boleyn proved that in the championship there are no easy games in this league and the Christmas period has proved this. Barnsley played extremely well at the academy of football and found they were unlucky not to gain a point. Coventry themselves also defended magnificently against us as we dominated. With trickier teams to come the Hammers will need to be more confident in front of goal and must take their chance.

2. In my last post I had a bit of rant about the lack of involvement of the quality youth system, but the injuries and suspensions meant that Frank Nouble had to play a Pride park, he played a blinder and has since forced Piquionne and Carew out of the first team, which can only be a good thing. Hopefully the two positive experiences of playing youth will make him delve further into the youth system as they play with pride and passion, something that some of the older heads seem to forget exists. It is a joy to see players like Nouble and Potts play, watching someone realise their ambition their dream is an inspirational experience. So Sam look at Fanimo, Turgott and Elliot Lee because they can’t be that far behind.

1. Despite the emergence of Frank the tank, the need for a striker is still very much apparent and this period of Christmas has shown this. The goals have dried up and the conversion rate of chances to goals has been poor. Thankfully I’m not the only one who has spotted this Mr Gold and Sullivan has too. Links to players of the calibre of Billy Sharp, Nicky Maynard and Jordan Rhodes has buoyed me. I firmly believe that we are one striker and a creative midfielder away from near guaranteed promotion; mind you I am a bit biased of course.

Why is it that whenever someone uses the phrase “no disrespect to”, they they proceed to go on and be disrespectful?

What exactly do you mean by “no disrespect to Barnsley or Coventry lower league opposition”

Last time I checked and, indeed, recently witnessed with my own two eyes, Barnsley and West Ham are in the same division.

You are in this league because you deserve it, and so are Barnsley.

    Get off your high horse.

Mate if you read it I think he meant that Bansley and Coventry are lower league opposition, as they are in the lower half of the Championship.

Where as Southampton, Cardiff etc are Upper league competition. There is no doubt West Ham deserve to be in this league based on there performance last season.

    Dont’t take it to heart!
