What a difference twelve months makes

Looking at the West Ham team from this time last season, you would never have expected the Hammers to go down. Obviously the fans could see this but the tactical magician Avram Grant struggled to come to terms with it and the owners did not have the bottle to sack him because he was ‘too nice’.

Right now the East End club have a good manager, a decent Championship squad and the owners are 100% backing the team, both financially and vocally which has got to be admired after the problems they have had since arriving back at their spiritual home.

The January transfer window was a very different affair for the Hammers last season with the big wages and big egos of Robbie Keane and Wayne Bridge arriving on loan and failing to make any sort of positive impact along with Gary O’Neil suffering serious injury just weeks after arriving in January from Middlesbrough. The only positive was the play of Demba Ba who actually managed to occasionally hit the target and put in a shift that none of the other strikers even thought of doing.

This winter, the lack of activity has been worrying, but it has not been for the lack of trying, with more than 10 bids now rejected for players across the past two weeks or so. The quality of the rumoured signings may be slightly underwhelming for Hammers fans that are now coming to terms with the fact that the Championship is a very tough league to get out of and West Ham are playing ok at the moment.

This time last year, we were losing most weeks and struggled to keep any clean sheets but this season plenty of away wins and a stern defence have held us in good stead going forwards in the hunt for promotion. The second half of the season, unlike last year, I believe will get slightly easier as teams will no longer be able to come to Upton Park and park the bus in front of their goal as they will have to pick up points in order to satisfy their own needs.

Last year was a bleak, depressing time for Hammers fans, so we should be happy where we are at the moment and the current set-up and team have more about them in terms of spirit and work rate that can only be positive.

Makes a change to see a positive aricle on this site. Big Sam is an excellent choice for us and the longer he sticks with us the better, although sadly I don’t think will because of the impatience of our fickle fans. We have done nothing but lose for the past 20 years with the odd good season. Under Pardew we were never in contention for automatic promotion. Let’s continue to grind our way out of this league, instil a sense of stability once in the Premierleague for a few years, and then worry playing this so called ‘West Ham Way’.

Nice one mate, if we want to be positive we can, but too many people are always going to be negative even if we do go up. Big Sam is doing a good job and will continue to do so until a ‘bigger’ club/England wants him

Sam Alladyce is a top quality football manager. By far the best we’ve had in a long long time. So all u cunts who keep moaning about him, shut the fuck up. The so called ‘West Ham way’ has seen us relegated 4 times in 22 years. Time for a fucking reality check eh?? COYI.
