The Highlights of the season…so far

|

Half way through the 2011/2012 season which finds West Ham United fighting for promotion back to the Premier League and we, as loyal Hammers supporters, have a few reasons to be happy for a change. So what have West Ham United’s best moments been so far this season?

Looking for experience? Just want to be heard outside of the Boleyn? We are currently looking for writers, drop us an email at foreverwestham@snack-media.com for more details

Firstly Sam Allardyce – As it stands we sit proudly at the top of the Championship, for the first time this season after a 2-1 home victory vs. Nottingham Forest. Big Sam has finally taken us to top spot. This is an excellent achievement if you consider for the last three seasons at least we have become accustomed to looking at the foot of table for the Irons and watching lifeless clueless footballers hijack our claret and blue shirt for money, several managers come and go and our club become use to losing then you can clearly see the massive task the manager has had to over turn. The former Bolton manager has built a strong squad that now even if we fall behind we have belief we will level and eventually lead and win games. He has instilled a winning mentality, silenced the owners regarding public speaking and fields a team that will listen and fight for our great club.

James Tomkins signing a new five year deal is a major boost for everyone associated with the Hammers. The young England Under-21 centre half has been a sensation this season and his potential last season was there for all to see but since the start of the campaign he has grown in confidence and his ability has really shone through and he is getting better each game and growing into another academy success. The fact he has committed his future to the club shows great dedication and commitment and belief in what Big Sam is trying to build at Upton Park. Tomkins should form the backbone of our team for the foreseeable future and I’m delighted with that.

Alongside Tomkins success this season we have also witnessed the arrival of more academy products in Danny Potts, Robert hall, Frank Nouble and Oliver Lee. Potts debut at the Boleyn vs. Barnsley was quite simply awesome, a real bright moment. Nouble showed he can step up if needed and Hall and Lee have been on the bench regularly. Allardyce has also loaned out several youngsters to gain valuable first team experience and if potential is fulfilled with opportunities given we could eventually see a West Ham team peppered with home grown talent.

Another highlight this season for me, however unsurprised I am, has been the fans. Our club has been pulled from pillar to post, made a laughing stock in the press (Martin O’Neil saga)and as said been on the verge of destruction, yet still the Hammers faithful come and cheer on our boys , encouraging and pushing them on to bring some much needed glory, this truly is an amazing support .

I must say at this point, with the transfer window open, I think a positive is the fact the board are looking to push on and back the manager financially in recruiting a new striker to help us gain automatic promotion know they divide opinion still but they seem to be rebuilding our club financially and show willing to spend if necessary whilst, as securing Tomkins showed, keeping our core youth and future safe.

And finally a real highlight has to be the sight of Millwall staring relegation in the face, who remembers last season away at Wigan when a certain lot of jokers decided to fly a message taunting us Irons with our impending relegation stating that Avram grant was a Millwall legend? A clearly hilarious stunt, but who laughs last laughs longest is what they say eh? Well legend Avram got the boot, West ham rebuilt and now sit 3 points clear of the championship, and the idiots with the plane? Oh yes 20th and 5 points away from the relegation places….what are the chances of history repeating itself with another fly by…..Only this time over the New Den. Now that would be a truly majestic way to return to the Premier League.

    Good point Spuds hater….

    Other highlights for me are:

    – Faubert looks like he wants to do well for US.
    – The three amigo’s are largely anonymous.
    – We didn’t sign Diouf.
    – Spuds thought they got a point at City….

Oh and Harry (who I once loved) will be flogged for his profiteering on players who should never have been sold.

I am putting this out there for people to comment on. I ask the question, I am the only West Ham supporter who is not happy?

I have been a West Ham supporter from birth and have been attending Upton Park for 30 years, around 15 of those seasons as a season ticket holder. I recently attended the Coventry game and came away from the ground with a tear in my eye. The noise level was well, there was no noise level. The only time the crowd got going was when we played some nice football, however, this only happened a few times in the game. The majority of the game we played long balls up to the forwards which I did not want to watch and nor it seemed the majority of the crowd.

I know people say we have to play this s**t football to get promoted. I then ask where does it stop? Are we then going to be told we must put up with it as we cannot afford to be relegated?

West Ham is my Church, I go to sing and shout for my team. I would rather be in the lower leagues playing good football around supporters making some noise, lots of noise for the whole game.

I know the game is all about the money these days and maybe lots of supporters will read this and think I am mad.

For the supporters old enough consider this, would you rather go and see West Ham play now and see them win, or back in the 80’s when we played the best football, lost lots of games but Upton Park would be rocking at least 30 minutes before the game?

I feel sorry for younger supporters who may never get to feel the passion of thousands of West Ham fans in Upton Park singing thier hearts out for the team.

Please sack Big Sam, Di Canio for manager.

      Don’t you worry my son…
As soon as we get back amongst the premiership teams, style of play will change; we just need to get out of this league – whatever way poss.

know what you mean about the passion from us fans, have to admit lately the atmosphere has gone amiss , when i go now could do with sitting or standing next to someone like you that loves to get behind our team, long for the 80s atmosphere at the boleyn ground again. coyi!
