The Boleyn Tavern

|

A day out to see West Ham play wouldn’t be the same without the customary pre match pint or two. Or three. Or four. In fact in recent seasons its become almost an essential part of the day to help numb the pain of the performances!

My chosen place of worship on match day is the Boleyn Tavern, a late Victorian public house, which is a street corner local in the shadow of the ground. A traditional East End boozer.
Posh it ain`t! With carpets that you’ll stick to if you stand in the same position for too long, plastic glasses and a toilet on the pool table side seemingly without a working door.

Arriving early is highly recommended as by 1.30 its wedged thus restricting your purchases of alcohol. Never a good thing. In fact the prospect of watching Piquionne play sober is not a good one.

Of course getting there early will also ensure that you are able to chat to your fellow drinkers before the `singers` arrive. God love em. The `Factory Football` wannabes treat you to a collection of songs for an hour or so ranging from the traditional `Bubbles` to `Ten German bombers in the air`. A song which goes on. And on. And on.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282
There`s also a song about Frank being fat, which clearly he isn’t, and Chelsea having no history, thus ignoring their league title win of 1955 and various cup final appearances. I digress.

It’s a West Ham pub for West Ham fans and highly recommended.

And a major part of the match day experience.

A word of warning though. Be wary of that last pint. My last few have rendered me a dribbling wreck by the time of game! Double vision and two Piquionne`s!! Ouch.

Haha great article Dave. I also like to have the odd pint in the tavern before a game. (who am i trying to kid…. like most hammers fans ive had at least 5 pints before KO)
I find it defantly helps me to put on those C&B tinted glasses and kid myself about how well we are playing!…haha.

As its unlikely i will be able to get a ticket for Wembley, will The Boleyn be showing the game live? I live in Dover and want to watch the game in a pub in the Upton Park area, and as i usually pop in to The Boleyn on match days, its the obvious choice.
