Another one off to WHL?

|

It has emerged that Tottenham Hotspur are looking into the possibility of signing West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green as a replacement for the ageing Brad Friedel; and they could get him for free.

The experienced Friedel, who turns 41 in May, has had an impressive debut season at Spurs as the club have forced their way into title contention, but being eight years younger, Green could be a more viable option in the long-term.  Tottenham are looking to solidify their position amongst the English elite and therefore want to add to a group of players who can mature together over the next few years.

This could prove to be an attractive option for Green who has seen his former Hammers team-mate, Scott Parker make the same move and become a Tottenham favourite.  Parker has been highly-praised for his performances this season, which have helped to make Spurs strong contenders to qualify for the Champions League, a meteoric rise considering he was playing in England’s second tier at the start of the season.

Although Green’s track-record suggests a strong loyalty, having only played for Norwich City and the Hammers, he may wish to test himself at the highest level before retirement.  Green, unlike Ben Foster and Paul Robinson, has also expressed a desire to remain involved on the international stage and a move to White Hart Lane could only strengthen his cause.  Since his infamous error against the USA at the World Cup, Green’s credibility as England’s keeper has greatly eroded, but whilst he is highly unlikely to displace Joe Hart, he could be a worthy understudy.

If these reasons for a move away were not enough, West Ham are playing hardball over a contract extension to the one which expires in the summer.  Determined not to make the same mistakes as previous regimes, David Sullivan and David Gold are hoping to secure promotion to the Premier League before offering one of their highest-earners a new deal.

Although this seems sensible at first-glance, it could risk losing one of West Ham’s best and long-serving players who would be invaluable to surviving relegation if they were to be promoted next season.  Reliable goalkeepers are notoriously hard to identify, even Manchester United have struggled, and Green has certainly proved to be one of the talented few, despite his high-profile mistake.

Contract laws are such that Green could freely speak to Tottenham in the summer, or be offered a move by a European club from now with relation to a free transfer in July.  With Monaco also apparently interested in Green, this possibility could not be out of the question.

However, a move to Tottenham seems to be much more likely as it would require little adjustment or relocation and would give Green the opportunity to play at the highest level of European football.  Hammers’ fans will be hoping their owners decide to tie him down quickly or they will risk losing yet another star to their bitter rivals.

Your website is rubbish.. whenever I come on here it freaks out. Sort it out

  • bob donuts says:

Green sucks. Why would we want him? He’s a championship player who suits being in a championship side

  • Hammer says:

    Greeno’s too good for Spurs.

If he’s going to go, he deserves to go to a bigger club.

Single handedly gained us four points off Redknapp’s men last season, event though we finished bottom of the PL!

    • Kingy says:

.. “a bigger club”? Arn’t Spurs currently in a Champions League spot for next year? And isn’t the champions league where all the big boys are? Sorry, why am I asking A WHU fan these questions?

      • Robbo says:

Your asking a west ham fan because we give accurate true answers based on fact, not just made up stuff to make you look better, this answer will also be available in audio should Redkrapp or any spud fans have problems reading, now, pay attention ( I know it’s hard) 3rd place makes you a big boy at the end of the season, not now my small minded friends, does it make Bolton a big club cos they went top after a couple games!!!! Please keep posting spud fans, it makes me laugh how you all bite so easy, and my 4 year old likes to correct your spelling mistakes, Arsenal wanna be mugs xx

        • Stoney says:

Let your 4-year-old correct your own spelling mistakes. In fact your very first word “you’re” not “your”. It’s the abbreviated form of “you are”. What a fool you must feel. A couple of other spelling mistakes and grammatical errors in there also. If you’re going to be a smart arse and have a pop at someone make sure you don’t f*ck it up. Now that’s funny. Keep posting. Numpty spammer.

  • Stoney says:

No no no no no. We won’t be signing that clown I assure you. Our little feeder team, wet spam urinated, has supplied us with some capable enough players when we have decide to take whoever and whenever we want, but that blooper machine is not going to be one of those who moves from that tiny eastend club to one of the biggest clubs in the world, the mighty spurs. His talent, or lack of it, remains in the lower leagues just like the spammers. Now let’s hear no more about this.

    • Robbo says:

Oh stoney, stoney, what a typical uneducated spud fan, you poor blinkered man, we sold you Parker for how much!!! And how old is he (thanks for your best years scotty) the painful truth for all you poor spud fans is you owe everything to west ham, Defoe, carrick, kanoute, to name but three, and of course mr “I can’t read or write” “put it in this account” Redkrapp, you may not go down but twitchy will be, I’m actually having trouble typing on my iPad cos I’m laughing so much ( that’s a hand held tablet style computer) oh shit! computer, ( that’s a magic box of lights that let’s you do stuff) anyway spud fans, stop kidding yourself that your man u or arsenal, they are the true giants of football, and next season you’ll have a new manager cos someone will bung arry to be England boss, bale will go cos he needs a big club and you’ll be rubbish again, see spud fans, simples!!!

      • Stoney says:

You again! Oh my word! It’s the bloke who mocks people’s spelling and can’t actually spell himself. Illiterate, a big mouth and a complete lack of self awareness. Man that’s a dangerously embarrassing combination you possess Nobbo. I laughed so hard I nearly popped a rib. What an absolute fool you are. I hope the spammers get promoted just so that you can get absolutely slaughtered each week in the premiership and get relegated… Again. To see spammers crying is an absolute delighted. Quit now. Save yourself further embarrassment. Always in our shadow.

        • Robbo says:

Ouch,,,,, you definitely had help writing that, come on be honest, ” I nearly popped a rib ” genius, and “nobbo”??? How did you come up with such filth, I bet you spell checked a hundred times before you posted ( you know I’m right) any way back to the football, as a West Ham fan there is nothing you can say to us that we don’t already know, we got relegated, we failed big time in th PL last season, ( 4 points from the spuds aside) I defy even Barcelona to stay up with Avram in charge, however we accept that and move on, we don’t think we are bigger than we are, we would never embarrass ourselves by proclaiming we are ” one of the big boys” because we had a good start to the season, do it for 2 or 3 years on the trott and i would concede to that, the biggest problem facing you lot is when ” our arry” gets a better offer from the FA next year ( or a 5 stretch for fraud) and Bale goes, which you all know he will, then what, start again, that’s what, keep biting my little fish, I’ll give you an hour to read this, ( I only used little words) and see what you come back with, good luck, all the best, Robbo x

  • John White says:

If Green were to be signed, it would be as a replacement for the also ageing Cudicini. If Tottenham replace Friedel, it will be with a first team goalkeeper.

  • Yidango says:

No thanks you’ll need him for promotion play offs next season…..

  • Acton_Yid says:

Spurs don’t want or need that clown Green, so all you Spammers can stop bleating now. Last time, I checked, 3rd place in the Premier League is a Champions League spot, where the “Big Clubs” play…mugs.

  • Yid4ever says:

But west ham are top of the league ,,, they must be good ! Mustn’t they !?
Oh hang on …. What league would that be ? 😉 hahaha

  • Bristol spurs says:

Rivals? We have our derby. Its not you or Chavski. I like west ham, who have always tried to play the game the right way. I used to watch you when Spurs were not playing ot up Norh. But you are just another London team and not been a rival in a while. I hope you sort your finances and come back to the Prem a stronger club. COYS!

  • Yid4ever says:

    Bristol spurs ,,, how correct u r !
They’re no threat & have always tried to play football the correct way.. They’ll never b our rivals and they’re a nice little club from orient

  • Jonnyhammer says:

I seem to remember numerous posts about Scott Parker when a move to N London was first mooted. The world was told that he wouldn’t get in the first team at WHL, that he was a championship player in a championship team and that he was worth 2-3m at most. How opinions have changed eh? Now he’s an essential first team player and showing the rest of the midfield up as a little less top class than the fans thought they were.
Do the programme notes have instructions on being obnoxious and arrogant as Spurs ‘fans’ seem to be generally the most hated fans in football outside the mindless morons of Millwall. The more you lot post your bile online and on phone ins the more you enforce the stereotype!
How long before the phone ins are full of you lot saying that the best manager in England, dear old brown envelopes, has taken you as far as he can?

    • Ginola14 says:

Wow, bitter much? You are right about Scotty though, I couldn’t understand why we bought him until I saw what your fans had seen for a long time. You know the funny thing is (and I’m not talking about the ten year old Spurs fan arguing above), the majority of Spurs fans don’t have a problem with West Ham or their fans, it’s the other way round. If I were you I would support your own team and hope for promotion, rather than try and put down another team’s fans who currently, finally have something to legitimately cheer about.

  • Rob says:

Who are these people who supposedly thought Parker was crap before he went to Spurs? I didn’t encounter any. He won player of the year and most realised he was clearly what Spurs were crying out for in midfield. Green on the other hand is nothing special at all.

  • Joe74 says:

No tottenham are too good for Green. We should get cassillas from Real madrid (89 on fifa!) and also dani alves at right back and maybe get Henry as a sub for defoe and adebayour. I think we will win the league this year. West ham are rubbish they will get relegated to the championship and when we play them we will win 6-0!

  • Graham Lang says:

why are fans of other clubs reading a West Ham website, closet Hammer supporters ?
