Do we want an FA Cup run?

With our first F.A cup tie of the season against Sheffield Wednesday fast approaching the popular topic of conversation around the Boleyn seems to be about whether or not the Irons want a cup run or not.

Many people believe that a cup run would be a fantastic opportunity for us to try to pick up some silverware, however it runs deeper than that. I believe that although the F.A cup really is a fantastic trophy in football and it would be an honour to win it again, West Ham right now really need to concentrate on getting back to the promise land of the Premier League. When we are sitting in a safe Premier League space then we can maybe turn our attentions to the cup but until then I deem it wise that we put the cup on a back burner.

Despite the main goal being promotion, it’s always possible that we might get an easy ride this year so in no way am I ruling out the chance of a cup run I’m just saying that like many fans I’d rather our squad stayed fit and took on the monumental task of getting back to the top tier of English football.

The F.A cup always holds the chance for injury’s and fatigue, which if both strike at a particular time can cripple a squad and that defiantly could hinder our chances of getting back to the Premiership. Now is not the time to be worrying about the cup and if we will win it or not, West Ham have hit a time period where we need to turn our priorities to gaining promotion.

Although do not get me wrong I’d love to win the cup as much as the next fan and if we get an easy run who knows but for me the satisfaction of being back where we belong would be much greater than winning the cup. There are plenty of chances for that but for the league, well I believe the sooner the better regarding promotion. COYI.
