Big Sam keen on £5 million signing

|

West Ham are interested in a move for Crystal Palace’s teenage winger Wilfried Zaha as they bid to strengthen their injury-hit squad in January.

The club are looking to sign a number of players in the new year to boost their promotion bid and have identified the Ivory Coast-born Zaha as one of their targets.

The 19-year-old has been in impressive form for Palace this season and produced a sparkling performance in the club’s shock win against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is keen to sign a wide player in January but the stumbling block may be the fee. Palace value Zaha at around £5 million but West Ham are unlikely to want to pay more than £2m.

From my experiences I have always thought that Zaha was a bit hit and miss, some games I’ve seen him he has been superb and the star of the show but on some occasions he has seemed isolated and weak.

Although Zaha I’m sure would improve our squad it is hard to see the way we would utilise the young man. His pace, skill and desire to run doesn’t exactly fit in with Big Sam’s long ball tactics.

The move is unlikely as Palace probably need Zaha more than we do, but I deem it good that Allardyce is putting out feelers in all directions as the former Bolton man knows it is want us passionate Hammers want and what our injury hit squad needs.
