The last couple of months have been nothing short of a joke for West Ham United.

After beating Manchester United in September, the Hammers were sitting third in the Premier League with everything looking rosy, but fast forward two months and they are currently sitting one place and three points above the relegation zone.

West Ham haven’t won a single game since then, meaning they have only managed maximum points on three separate occasions in their 13 games so far.

That is nowhere near acceptable for a side that have broken their transfer record three times in the past couple of seasons to be struggling so much, and especially after they started the season so well.

Despite all of this, Pellegrini admitted that he still believes that his West Ham side can qualify for European football at the end of this season.

“To try to fight for a spot in European, that is my mentality,” he told Sky Sports.

“We continue always with this mentality.

“To fight for relegation is not my goal here.”

Pellegrini is just stating the obvious with these comments, and after what he has seen in the last couple of months, he needs to concentrate more on matters closer to home.

It is coming to the stage where the Chilean seems to be scraping for answers to make his current situation more tenable at the London Stadium, and he should just be concentrating on things at a game-by-game basis and picking up three points.

A trip to Chelsea isn’t exactly what the Hammers will have been wanting next up, with Frank Lampard’s side having scored seven goals in their previous three home games in all competitions.

Pellegrini has to be kidding himself with these recent comments, and he really can’t honestly believe that his side in their current state are capable of pushing for the European spots in the top flight.
