Owen predicts West Ham win

|

Michael Owen has predicted that West Ham’s London derby clash with Tottenham on Saturday will be a “hugely entertaining” match, and believes that the Hammers will end their current slump with a win.

The Irons are winless in six in the Premier League, and are currently 16th in the table.

But Owen sees things getting whole lot better for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

Speaking to Bet Victor, he said: “West Ham have lost four of their last five league games while Spurs have their lowest points tally (14) after 12 league games for over a decade. This could not be described as a game between two inform-sides!

“Manuel Pellegrini received a vote of confidence from the Hammers board after their latest defeat at Turf Moor and I think that faith will be rewarded back at the London Stadium.

“Spurs, despite their heavy defeat to Bayern Munich, have reserved their best performances for the Champions League of late and I feel the hosts will edge what promises to be a hugely entertaining London derby.”

OPINION

You have to hope that Owen is right about this one. The Hammers have been in abject form of late, and if we’re being honest, their upcoming run of fixtures hardly makes for pleasant reading. Wolves, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all to come after Saturday’s clash against Spurs, and if Pellegrini doesn’t turn things around quickly then he could be in a whole lot of trouble. But Spurs are not the same side they were this time last season, and they will go into this game just one point and two places ahead of the Hammers in the table. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are themselves winless in five matches, and no longer look like the fearsome juggernaut they were at times last term. It’s an unusual shout from Owen, but it may not be his worst one ever.
