Mills: West Ham board could consider change after Mourinho

Danny Mills has claimed that the West Ham United board could have had their head turned by the performance of Tottenham under Jose Mourinho.

The Sky Sports pundit has suggested that the Hammers could look to replace Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium after seeing the positive impact Mourinho had on Spurs in the 3-2 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

Mills claimed that switching things up could have a positive impact on West Ham, who remain winless since September in all competitions under the Chilean.

“Pellegrini has clearly come under pressure,” he told Football Insider.

“It makes it worse if a new manager comes into a club, plays against you and they win because the owners go: ‘They’ve just changed their manager and got an upturn. We can see the difference’.”

Mills went on to suggest that he doesn’t expect the Hammers’ board will make any snap decisions though.

It is getting to the point where many West Ham fans will be thinking how much more of this can their board take before stepping in to make a change at the top. The Hammers simply aren’t good enough, and although some of the blame sits with the players, Pellegrini also has to take a large chunk of that. The Chilean has refused to make a number of changes in East London despite many of his regulars not being good enough. He can’t expect changes in results if he isn’t prepared to make the big calls before games in his selections. There isn’t much inspiration at the London Stadium, and the substitutions reflected that. Bringing on Carlos Sanchez when you are being dismantled just isn’t good enough, especially when you consider the fact that Albian Ajeti, a striker, was there waiting to make more of an impact in the final third. There can’t be much more that Pellegrini could do to get sacked, and another couple of defeats could see exactly that happen.
