West Ham United transfer target Albian Ajeti prefers a move to the Premier League club over a switch to Championship side West Bromwich Albion, according to Claret & Hugh.
The reliable Hammers news source claims that optimism is growing in east London that they will win this particular transfer battle ahead of former manager Slaven Bilic.
Significant progress is thought to have been made between the Irons and Ajeti’s club Basel overnight on Tuesday, with West Ham upping their original bid.
And the player himself is thought to want to play in the English top flight, increasing the chances of Manuel Pellegrini’s side getting a deal done.
OPINION
Yes, everything seems to point towards West Ham securing Ajeti’s signing before Thursday’s transfer deadline. It was always likely, you’d think, that the Switzerland international would rather move to the Hammers, who are a Premier League side, than West Brom, who play in the second tier. Not only could the east London outfit offer more money, but they could provide a higher level of competition and better quality teammates. Seriously, why would Ajeti choose West Brom? With all that said, if the Irons can get this one done then it will be a big boost to their squad going into the new Premier League campaign. Sebastien Haller is the main man up front after his club record signing, there’s no arguing with that, but beyond that he is backed up only by inconsistent veteran Javier Hernandez and youngster Xande Silva. Another frontman is needed, and it looks like Ajeti is going to be that man.
