West Ham keen on unnamed prolific forward

|

West Ham are keen to bring in another striker before the end of the transfer window, and have their eye on a prolific forward from a top European league, according to reliable source ExWHUemployee.

While unable to name the player, Ex did drop some clues as to his identity.

Speaking on the West Ham Way radio show on Wednesday evening, also cited by West Ham News on Twitter, he claimed that the Hammers are interested in a hitman from a high quality continental division with a strike rate of one goal every three games.

He also suggested that the Irons had shown an interest in the player before.

OPINION

It’s hard to know what to feel about this one, to be honest. On the one hand, any interest in a striker could be read as a positive thing, especially when they have a strike rate as decent as that and turn out regularly in a top European league, but on the other, how can you evaluate a player when you don’t know who he is? The best stance to take on this is probably just to be pleased that the Hammers are still in the hunt for another forward full stop. The signing of Sebastien Haller is a big statement of intent, and one that will have fans purring, but the only other option that they have currently is Javier Hernandez, and the Mexican showed last season that he is not the player he once was. Just 0.4 key passes and 0.6 successful dribbles per match [Whoscored] show a player who was largely isolated last term, and having third striker, either as back up or as somebody to help facilitate Hernandez better, is a sensible idea.
