West Ham expect big things from Dju

West Ham are expecting “big things” from youngster Mesaque Dju next season, according to Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole.

The 20-year-old joined the Hammers from Benfica in January, and has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy award, as reported by Football.London, despite not having made his senior debut for his new side.

But Inkersole is predicting a breakout year for the wide man.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “He had a settling in period last season after signing from Benfica but big things are expected of him in 2019/20.”

For a young player like Dju, it doesn’t get much bigger than a nomination for the Golden Boy. By no means is it a guarantee of future success, but certainly, anybody and everybody who has gone on to have a top, top level career in the professional game recently have gotten a nod at some point. Will he win it? It would take a minor miracle, but in the grand scheme of things, that doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that he is getting the recognition, and that he is clearly catching the eye of those who make the decisions in east London. Manuel Pellegrini has shown already that he is not afraid to give youth a chance, and the rise of players like Declan Rice, Grady Diangana, and Xande Silva show that there are opportunities there for starlets who prove themselves. If they can get Dju up and running, they could have another bright young thing on their hands.
