West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic is set for a medical as his move to Shanghai SIPG draws closer, according to talkSPORT.
The sports broadcaster claims that the Austrian international will complete his medical in London imminently before his £22.5million transfer is completed.
talkSPORT reported the news on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon, with the move set to be completed in the coming days.
West Ham were previously reported to have accepted the offer that is way below their £40million valuation after members of the Hammers squad wanted the 30-year-old to be sold.
Arnautovic reportedly handed in his second transfer request in the space of a year after signing a contract extension in January.
OPINION
The sooner this move is completed, the better. Arnautovic has become a burden at the Hammers in the previous couple of years, with the constant stream of bad news always coming back to the Austrian international, somehow. After a disappointing year at the London Stadium, a move away from the Premier League is probably better for the 30-year-old too. A striker has reportedly become Manuel Pellegrini’s priority, something that was suggested even when Arnautovic was set to stay at the club. Arnautovic scored 10 goals in the league during his 28 appearances and managed to score half of those goals for Austria in his eight games last season. That is enough to prove that he isn’t cut out for England anymore, and a move to China is best for both parties. An average of one goal every 2.8 league games is not enough for a team looking for European qualification – with reported target Andrea Belotti a much better option after scoring 17 goals for Torino.
