John Motson has surely muted the West Ham alarm bells about how bad they were on Saturday against Everton after sharing how the Toffees’ directors felt.

The legendary commentator who was in attendance at the London Stadium as the Hammers slumped to a 2-0 loss to the Toffees, implied the club’s directors were even surprised by how good Marco Silva’s side were.

Motson claimed it was the best Everton have played under the manager and that the Toffees directors were echoing his thoughts after the game.

“This is the best Everton have played under Marco Silva and even their own directors were saying that after the game,” said Motson on talkSPORT (Monday, April 1st, 14:38pm).

While there’s no getting away from how bad the Hammers were on Saturday, surely there’s no reason to panic too much as Everton did raise their game.

It’s says so much that even thought the Toffees were impressive against Chelsea lately, they raised their game further to beat the Hammers.

Manuel Pellegrini could not have prepared his side for Everton being superb like they were on Saturday, so surely the Hammers should be cut some slack?

After losing to the Toffees, there seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding the Hammers but maybe they simply faced Silva’s side at the wrong time.

Everything seems to be starting to click at Goodison Park after a mixed bag of results, and the London club unfortunately paid the price of facing a side in top-form and with a new found belief.

While the Hammers’ squad shouldn’t be let off the hook for their display, surely the alarm bells can be muted until their next game, as no one expected the Toffees to be that good on Saturday.
