Why did West Ham United actually sign Lucas Perez from Arsenal in the summer? The 30-year-old was hardly a prime option there after having been loaned out numerous times.

Some may view his signing as absolutely pointless, and to be honest, they are not far wrong. The Spaniard has not managed to contribute anything worthwhile to the Hammers cause since his arrival, which suggests that something is very wrong.

Football London reported before the 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Saturday that he had been left out of the match day squad for the tenth time this season – for a reason unrelated to fitness or injury.

If anything, this latest snub is pretty much the writing on the wall for the forward. To be left out of the squad ten times in an entire season due to non-injury reasons is just not good enough, and it suggests that Manuel Pellegrini thinks that he is not up to Premier League standard.

That is the thing – he is not Premier League standard. The Irons should have realised this before they went and snapped him up. There was obviously a reason why he had been loaned out by Arsenal, and he has been showing that during his stay in East London.

A summer exit is surely on the cards for Perez by the looks of it. Pellegrini does not seem to be a huge fan of him, and you can hardly blame him. The club have effectively poured money down the drain with such an abysmal signing.

He has surely played his last game in a West Ham shirt. The likelihood of him pulling on the claret jersey once more before the end of the campaign is very slim indeed for the barely seen attacker, who has only made 12 league appearances in total.
