Ian Wright heaped praise on West Ham attacker Felipe Anderson for his performance in the 2-1 loss to Manchester United.

The BBC pundit shared that he thought the 25-year-old winger played fantastically well against Man United and highlighted the fact that Anderson’s ninth-minute goal was wrongly ruled out.

Anderson thought he had put the Hammers ahead on Saturday but just like Wright pointed out, it seems the officials wrongly didn’t notice that Diogo Dalot had in fact played the Brazilian onside.

“West Ham deserved to win that game, they matched Manchester United all the way,” said Wright on BBC One’s Match of the Day (23:00, Saturday April 13th).

“We will see here with the offside goal with Felipe, who played fantastically well today, once this is headed back to Snodgrass, everyone is thinking offside due to Jones.

“But you look at Dalot down here, he’s kept him onside and it’s plain to see, it’s tight but you have to get them right.”

OPINION

Anderson was a joy to watch on Saturday and showed everyone what he can do. The 25-year-old has struggled for form since the start of the year but looked back to his best against Man United. Anderson kept running throughout the game and Man United often found themselves bamboozled by the Brazilian’s flair.  Hopefully the 25-year-old is able to build on his latest display and have a strong start to the season. Manuel Pellegrini will be expecting Anderson to up his game in the 2019/20 campaign by being more consistent, as the winger should at that point, be more settled into life at the London Stadium and have fully adapted to the Premier League. You feel Anderson’s inconsistent form this season has been a result of him adjusting to life in England after joining the Hammers from Lazio in the summer. Although it’s worth noting his poor form in recent weeks hasn’t been helped by the fact a lot of his teammates have also struggled to deliver the goods as well.
