West Ham have discussed signing Sturridge

West Ham have discussed the possibility of signing Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 29-year-old – who is out of contract at the end of the season – is one of many attacking options that they are discussing if the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez or Javier Hernandez end up leaving in the summer transfer window.

The report adds that the Irons have also discussed the possibility of signing Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, Jean-Kevin Augustin at Red Bull Leipzig and Roma forward Eden Dzeko.

OPINION

With Andy Carroll leaving when his contract expires in a few months time and the future of the other three up in the air, signing Sturridge would actually be rather wise. He would cost nothing and would be available on a free transfer, which would suit the club down to the ground. The England international needs a fresh start after being on the fringes of the Liverpool side for so long – that was always going to be the case with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah in the side – and he would basically be guaranteed game time next season if he made the move down South. Yes, he is 29 – but he still has lot more to offer, and it should be the Irons who make the most of that next term. Arnautovic is out of sorts and Hernandez is not the most consistent, and signing Sturridge would be like a breath of fresh air.
